Simple doesn’t always mean easy. In fact, quite often, the opposite is true.

The Construction Zone, Ltd. Construction Zone Builders came to us with a specific vision: a 12-foot dining table with square, solid wood legs at each corner, finished in black.

With clean lines and very few elements, every proportion, connection and detail has to be right. At this length, a steel frame underneath provides strength and stability while keeping the design beautifully simple.

This is where Alfonso shines. His skill, patience and ability to figure out the hard parts brought this silk oak table to life. Watching him work gives you an appreciation for everything that goes into a piece like this.

We’re so fortunate to have his mastery in our shop.

Our clients wanted a 70-inch round dining table for their new home. Their direction was essentially: “We want a statement piece. We trust your artistry and craftsmanship. Now go!”

Music to Scott’s ears.

His vision: beautifully figured eucalyptus fitted together like a puzzle, copper inlay highlighting the connections, and a 2” hand hammered copper band around the perimeter.

Scott has a way of seeing possibilities the rest of us haven’t considered. He also has a way of making those possibilities Phil’s problem.

Fortunately, Phil is an exceptional craftsman. There may have been a few choice words along the way. The copper band alone gave him plenty of opportunities. 🤭

There’s no instruction manual for a table like this. It takes experience, ingenuity, and people who care about getting it right.

Now it’s the first thing you see through our clients’ front door, and they’re thrilled. We’re grateful they gave us room to explore.

Raw beauty.

Buckeye burl, acacia, mesquite, an old carob trunk, even a charred beam.

The cracks, knots, bark, hollows, wild grain and unexpected shapes. All the things that make each piece of wood interesting, beautiful and completely unique.

These are trees from around Phoenix that might otherwise have ended up in the landfill.

We see something worth saving.

Some will become tables, benches or something we haven’t even thought of yet.

Others are so beautiful just as they are, we’re happy to admire them until the right idea comes along.

Come wander through our slab yard and discover hidden treasures.

We’re not a cabinet shop. But dang, check out this cabinet. 🔥

Here’s a behind-the-scenes peek at this custom credenza coming together in the shop, complete with a waterfall detail, countertop, and elegant shelving.

Not your average cabinet-credenza, because we don’t do average (just sayin).

The wood is stunning. The finished piece is even better.

And the craftsmanship? Ah-mazing. Alfonso and Phil killed it, as always.

We’ve been keeping something pretty fun under wraps…

A collaboration with Mad Charcoal on their new gallery in Old Town Scottsdale, where you’ll find a collection of Ironwood Mills pieces alongside their own work.

The doors just opened to the public, so Scott and I stopped in before my birthday dinner at Hai Noon to see everything coming together.

We’ll be sharing a lot more as we get closer to the official launch in November. For now, a little peek around the gallery. 🖤

Most days, Scott and I are running in completely different directions, so the fact that we’re actually sitting at a computer together here is already a little unusual. 🤔

But this is us.

An idea starts somewhere. We talk it through. Then we head out to the shop, look at the wood, talk some more, change our minds, figure something out, and then Scott gets to work.

In this case, a big eucalyptus slab, a lot of sanding, grinding steel and welding…and an idea slowly becoming a real thing.

It’s not always a perfectly mapped-out process. And there are usually a few twists and turns along the way.

But we’ve been creating things together for a long time now, and there’s still something pretty cool about watching an idea we’ve talked about come to life right in front of us.

That part never gets old.

Most people shop for furniture after they’ve designed the house.

The smartest clients reserve the wood first.

These eucalyptus, mesquite, and silk oak slabs just came out of the kiln and are officially available for custom dining tables, islands, conference tables, vanities, and architectural features.

Six months from now, many of these slabs will be living in someone’s home.

The question is: whose?
