School is starting back, but for many of us, outdoor season is just getting good.
We make outdoor tables and chairs from domestic wood and recycled aluminum, giving you a more sustainable alternative to some of the usual choices.
Tropical hardwoods like teak, mahogany, sapele, and ipe can come with a significant environmental cost - damage to our rainforests and tropical ecosystems, concerns about illegal logging, and the impact of being shipped across an ocean to reach us. Recycled plastic furniture often comes with another concern - over time, UV exposure and weathering can lead to the chance for microplastics to end up in our soil and outdoor spaces.
The outdoor set shown here is just one option we offer. This particular one is made from thermally modified wood, something that has been popular in Europe for many decades and that we have been working with for years. We use a domestic wood species altered with heat processing which makes it durable, resistant to rot, and suitable for outdoor use. We crafted the table and chair bases with recycled aluminum. No tropical hardwoods, no plastic, and no trips across an ocean.
Come try these out in the shop, including a version of the chairs with arms. Or ask us about outdoor coffee tables, benches, side tables or whatever your patio-loving self can dream up.
Our team is proud to make these by hand right here in North Carolina, giving you a thoughtful (and beautiful) way to spend more time outdoors.
