Almost two years ago! I still admire this one every time I’m in my son’s house! 🤩

THREE vintage oak cabinets. The two in the back are mine. The one in the front is sold. Every so often, I find another. Let me in know if you’d like me to find one for YOU!

The triplet cabinet is done! I’ve had my “twins” for several years now and found a third matching cabinet a few months ago. I toyed with the idea of using all three and making them into one big cabinet, but decided against it. So, when I received an inquiry about sourcing another cabinet similar to mine, I said, I’ve got you! This one had been refinished in the blonde treatment, meaning there was a coat of yellow…something all over it. I don’t know what to call it, but it’s like a heavy duty paint that does NOT strip easily. This was the second blonde oak piece I’ve refinished, and I’m thinking it will be my LAST! It’s a lot of extra work to get it stripped. But, it all turned out in the end! Swipe for more pics. And I have to say, seeing all three in a photo together makes me realize how much I love them as a group. My favorite thing is that they all have different scallop designs on the bottom. Otherwise, they’re pretty much identical! 💕

At least my basement is still dry! We needed rain back on Sept 9th, but this is ridiculous. Rivers are out of banks, basements are flooded. There CAN be too much of a good thing! If you’ve been in the path of this repeating rain, how much have you gotten?

I’m stripping another “blonde” oak piece right now and am reminded of one of my heroes in life: the one who invented the wire brush.

My st****er removes the varnish just fine, but I have to take mineral spirits and a wire brush to get to the white pigment underneath. 👎🏻

I have been paring down the pieces in my home over the summer and fall. I’ve actually debated about this one for a couple of years now. And… it’s heading to the shop this weekend. 😱

Rarely do I cover an entire piece in paint. But, I did this time. It was already covered in two colors of thick highly brush-marked chalk paint, and I wasn’t going to strip all that away. The top actually wasn’t painted, but it had a large loose bubble in the veneer right in the center of the table, so I filled that, and painted the top, too. The treatment I gave this piece was inspired by a table I have long admired from Priory Antiques Studio It was a small table with scallops that were outlined in white, and it was so cute! I thought this buffet’s details fit remarkably well to the same treatment. I didn’t have access to the same brand of paint, so had I attempted to find a match. I started with with Sherwin Williams Pinky Beige, but ended up adjusting it quite a bit to get to the peachy/pinky/n**e color I was wanting. I actually love the way it turned out! 🥰 In fact, I love it so much that now I need to decide if I want to trade this one for my current keeper buffet! 🤪 TBD

A deeper walnut-toned finish gave the different woods enough depth to finally read as one cohesive piece — while still letting that gorgeous oak grain show through. First, I stained the entire piece with Jacobean, then sealed with Seal Coat so I could apply some toner (just on the drawers). But, I wasn’t happy with how it looked, so I wiped the toner back off with some lacquer thinner and then tried a coat of Dark Walnut gel stain, and that worked much better! Finally, I sealed everything with a matte poly. Not the original plan, but absolutely the right choice for THIS piece!
