Over the last 50 years, we’ve had the privilege of working in homes all across Rochester and Southeast Minnesota. In some cases, we’ve remodeled kitchens for one generation, then years later returned to work with their children—and eventually their grandchildren.

That kind of trust isn’t something we take lightly.

A lot has changed since 1976. Styles have changed. Tools have changed. The way people live in their homes has changed.

But our commitment to quality materials, thoughtful craftsmanship, and building cabinetry that lasts has remained the same.

This custom kitchen was designed around maximizing functionality while still feeling warm and inviting for everyday living. The combination of light white oak cabinetry, a modern shaker profile, dark accents, and layered textures creates a timeless space that feels both elevated and comfortable.

One of our favorite details in this project is how every inch was intentionally designed for storage and organization without sacrificing aesthetics.

We’re seeing a shift toward warmer materials, more thoughtful storage, and spaces that actually work for how people live day-to-day. Less about trends for the sake of trends—and more about creating homes that feel good to be in.

We recently completed a beautiful built-in project that transformed part of this home in a really meaningful way.

The homeowners repurposed their three-season porch into a welcoming social space just off the kitchen. We installed alder built-in lower cabinets with six floating shelves above, all designed with classic shaker-style doors.

Here in Minnesota, three-season porches sometimes feel more like three-week porches, so turning this space into a cozy gathering area was a great use of square footage.

We also added an additional built-in near the kitchen, painted white with shaker doors. It provides much-needed storage along with open shelving to display décor and personal pieces that make the space feel warm and lived-in.

How long does it take to get a new kitchen? The cabinetry portion typically takes about 8–12 weeks from initial drawings to installation. Every project is different — some clients move quickly through decisions, others take more time refining details. Either way, thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship are worth it.

In 1976, this was it — the very first wood shop purchased under the name Nigon Woodcraft, along with the first shop truck.

What began as a small family operation has grown over five decades into the business many of you know today. Through changing styles, new tools, and thousands of projects, one thing has remained the same: a commitment to craftsmanship and doing things the right way.
