Chairs are my love language! I make them and teach others how to do it, too with my online course! One way to give back is to repurpose old and new chairs.

I take vintage and new chairs, strip them to the frame, and build them back with new materials topped off with whimsical fabric. If you are looking for something unique, contact me to create that one-of-a-kind piece of furniture for you!

Every chair and settee in these photos started out as someone else’s castoff. Now they’re the reason my house feels like home.

When you know how to reupholster, your home changes. That plain corner turns into a reading nook with a settee in a bold floral. The dining room gets chairs that don’t match and look better for it. Every room gets a piece that makes you smile when you walk in.

None of this needed a designer budget. It needed a few basic skills, some fabric I loved, and the willingness to try. You can learn those same skills in my DIY Upholstery for Beginners course. No sewing required. Every project in the course is no-sew, from start to finish.

Can you believe how cute these turned out?

I told you last Monday I was trying to decide on the fabric, and this is the one I picked. But one of you suggested that I use this check for the welt, and what a great idea!

I’ve had these chairs for more than 10 years and they’ve been in my garage and I finally decided it was time to do something with them. I got these at the Round Top antique flea market back then, and I love shopping, flea markets, but there’s many other places that I really love shopping. I’m doing a free workshop tomorrow on where I get all of my chairs. I use auctions antique shops, Facebook marketplace among other others and I’ll show you exactly how I search for everything.

"Where did you find that chair?"

These two chairs sat on a lot at the Round Top Flea Market until the very last day. Everyone walked right past them. Rickety, grimy, clearly done.

I paid $40 for the pair. Then they sat in my garage for ten years.

This fall I finally pulled them out. Those faux bamboo front legs were begging for a bright, unapologetic pink, a little wink at 1950s Palm Beach glamour. The old hard drop-in seats are gone, replaced with plush built-up seats covered in Schumacher Avondale Floral. A pink check welt finishes them off.

Same chairs everyone passed over. Look at them now.

From empty shells to the most joyful pair of embroidered French armchairs.

These came to me as bare frames with zero personality. Now they’re covered in navy embroidered fabric full of horses, birds, and flowers in every color, and those white faux bois frames make it all pop.
