The latest addition to our Sound Habit interview series just dropped 🎧

Jahi Sundance is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter, and DJ best known as a core member of Robert Glasper's band. He has toured with artists ranging from Mos Def to Talib Kweli, performed at iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and earned production and songwriting credits with artists including Chris Brown, Miguel, and Common.

During this delightful conversation, we talk about how his innovative style came about, how much growing up with a famous avant-garde saxophonist father shaped his musical taste, how Meshell Ndegeocello was not afraid to have Jahi on stage improvising and learning the chops, but we also chat about the Jersey bootleg scene back in the day, buying 45s at bodegas in NY, and the triangles, squares, and circles within a band.

October Crate Dig contest now open and it is 🔥

For this edition, we visited Toneoptic friend Cut Chemist as he was selling some of his collection at VinylCon. After a bit of digging he chose this for you:

His limited 2015 Funk Off Megamix 12". Using material from his compilation Cut Chemist Presents Funk Off, this is a mix of French Synth and Drum Machine based music taken mainly from cassettes remixed into a seamless dance party the only way Cut Chemist knows how.

Good luck finding a mint shrinked copy of this gem, but with a bit of luck, it can be yours now!

All you have to do is enter your name for a chance to win this catch ↓

Missed the latest episode of Sound Habit? Nate Albert of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones talks with us about his vinyl collection

Nate Albert helped form the beloved ska punk band Mighty Mighty Bosstones at only 13 years old. He ended up spending 17 years playing lead guitar for the Bosstones. His journey then took him to roles as a music executive at Republic, Capitol, and Warner, signing acts such as The Weeknd, Phantogram, Maggie Rogers, and many others. Today he is the President of Giant Music.

We sat down with Nate to talk about the early years of The Bosstones, why he quit the band at age 15 for a hot minute, his backstage moments at the many festivals the band played, and then we take a deep dive into his sizeable record collection to look at his top 5, his most valued, and the underrated and upcoming records Nate feels you may want to check out.

For the September edition, we traveled to San Antonio, Texas, and visited Alamo Record Co.

After chatting with the owner and a few internal discussions, the crate dig for September was decided upon: A $106.66 (oh the pun!) OG copy of Vangelis's project Aphrodite's Child's 1972 2xLP titled 666. A fascinating prog rock record that we are grateful we got to discover through this giveaway, and now count amongst our favorites.

With a bit of luck, it can be yours- just for the asking!
