Objects of My Obsession | Swedish Painted Cabinet (c.1800)


This Swedish cabinet is such a gem. The date “1800” is carved right into the wood, and that detail alone stopped me in my tracks. The slate-blue paint is a later layer, but if you look closely, you can see hints of older colors peeking through.

All the hardware is original, from the iron hinges to the key that still works. The design leans more country than formal Gustavian, which makes it even more charming. It’s simple, beautifully crafted, and full of character. And I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for those fluted details on the front.

Objects of My Obsession | Vintage Secretaries.


I brought this Swedish secretary back from Sweden and I’m still obsessed. The original paint is just gorgeous, worn in all the right places so you can see the pine graining peek through. And those brass pulls, little lion faces with so much personality. I had never seen anything quite like them before.

The best part came when we first opened it, we found a birthday card written in Swedish tucked inside one of the drawers. Moments like that are why I love antiques so much. You never know what stories they are still holding.

OBJECTS OF MY OBSESSION | Vintage Benched


This crane piece from Colchester Zoo still has its original timber seat and back—and all the whimsy that’s missing from design today. We don’t see playful details like this anymore… just plastic, printed, and practical. This bench reminds us that design can still be fun, beautiful, and a little extraordinary.
