Some things are so much bigger than the things we make. 💕

Jace Rottinghaus was born in July with a complex congenital heart defect, and what was supposed to be a short NICU stay has turned into months of hospital stays, procedures, and surgeries. At just a few months old, he has already faced more than most people will in a lifetime, and his journey is far from over.

Tomorrow, family, friends, and our community are coming together to help ease some of the weight his parents, Maddy and Tyler, have been carrying.

Revivals donated this handmade solid elm duck peg shelf to Jace’s benefit auction. It’s a small contribution to a much bigger effort, but one we’re grateful to be part of.

If you’re able, please consider stopping out, making a donation, or simply keeping Jace and his family in your thoughts. Every bit of kindness and support matters.

Here’s to one very brave little boy, his family, and a community showing up when it matters most. ❤️

A LITTLE SOUTHERN CHARM 🤎

This gorgeous, traditional oak buffet recently received a little love here at Revivals — but rather than completely refinishing it in a new way - we decided she just needed a little fixin’ and refreshin’ instead.

After she got a structural facelift sitting with many many clamps and glue and some new support brackets for a few days - I carefully touched up areas of missing stain, corrected some damage on the top, and gave it a fresh topcoat to bring back its warmth and beauty.

With its beautifully detailed woodwork, turned legs, classic hardware, and generous storage, this is the kind of timeless piece that deserves a place in a home for generations to come.

It’s not perfect — there are a few very teeny tiny minor veneer imperfections consistent with its age — but that’s part of the story of an older piece.

Measurements:
54” wide × 22” deep × 38½” tall

Want to know a secret? 🤫

You have total permission on any given day to try and learn something totally new. 🥰

During Covid lockdown when there were no auctions, no garage sales, and I didn’t have my shop In Strawberry yet, I built tons of furniture pieces from scratch! I spent lockdown learning how to make things to finish instead of finding them.

Part of me really misses doing that even if it’s on a tiny scale! So when I started getting ideas for a new saw I had purchased from one of my incredible furniture customers - then playing around with these duck designs inspired by my recent duck painting - I fell in love. These are entirely created from my own brain and I couldn’t be more proud of how cute they are! 🥰

This one is Mocha on locally sourced Elm. 🌳 🦆
$39 each.

Fate decided this beauty was NOT going to the garbage truck… 🙌

I was on my way home from picking up a buffet that already took up the entire bed of the truck… when I spotted this dresser sitting on the curb.

So naturally, it was meant to be to save her. 😂

With nowhere left to put it, I ended up strapping the dresser directly onto the tailgate to get her home going realllll slow.

She needs plenty of work, but nothing we can’t tackle — and I cannot WAIT to see what’s hiding underneath all that old chalk paint. 😍

This antique buffet has so much character — those turned legs, the scalloped detailing, the little carved accents… 👀💕

I refinished the body in a rich, warm walnut tone and paired it with a soft creamy neutral on the doors + lower drawer, then finished everything off with aged brass hardware. The result feels warm and timeless without being overly dark, and I LOVE how much the lighter accents bring out all of the original woodwork.

And honestly, this is one of those pieces that could work in so many places — dining room buffet, entryway, living room storage, coffee bar, oversized console, even a statement piece under a TV.

She’s also a really nice size without being massive:

60” wide × 21” deep × 37.5” tall

Lots of closed storage, gorgeous antique details, and completely refinished so she’s ready for another long chapter. 🤎

I love when antiques get to stay with me for a spa week before heading back home to their loving family. 💕

And just for a little perspective on how old these actually are - these stools were made one in the 1870s and the other early 1880s. The Civil War had only ended a handful of years earlier.
The Statue of Liberty wasn't even standing yet. These stools were made before CARS were mass produced and now got delivered to me in a hybrid. 🤯

They came to me looking well-loved - very dry, missing finish, old paint, grime, old crunchy upholstery - I stripped them down and cleaned them up, brought the wood back to life, polished and polished and polished up those incredible plated claw feet and glass ball casters, and gave the upholstered one a new leather seat and brass tacks that still feels right with its age.

And somehow, 150-ish years later, here they are getting cleaned up and sent back home to their family. 🛠️🙌

What if I told you painting furniture isn’t some brand new “trend”? 🤔

This little stool is an incredible example.

Not only was it painted black, but when I pulled it apart, I found evidence of an earlier reworking likely done in the late 1930s, based on the early linoleum covering. Instead of using all-new materials, it had been rebuilt with pieces of an early 1930s hand woven camp blanket and old knitting scraps used as padding.

It’s such a good reminder that people have been repairing, reworking and reusing furniture for generations.

And honestly, it feels a lot like now. During hard economic times, people didn’t simply throw things away. They made do with what they had, saved what they could and found ways to give old things another life.

I love when a piece tells more than one story — not just the story of when it was originally made, but the story of the people who cared enough to keep it useful decades later.

I’m wrapping up a few customer projects right now, and I had to share this one because… what a glow-up. 😂🤎

This piece definitely made me work for it! A lot of those beautiful decorative details are actually plastic, and once I started digging in, there was quite a bit of hidden damage underneath too. So I pulled a few tricks out of the refinishing bag to mimic the original wood veneer, repair and disguise the damage, and make everything feel like it belonged together again. 💕

She was a project, but SO worth it. 🙂‍↕️

I’m really happy with how rich and warm she turned out, and I can’t wait to see her reunited with her hutch top!
