Let’s goooooo! 🚤💨

This boat had recently received a 300-hour service from another provider. Over the July 4th weekend, the engine stalled, would not restart, and the vessel had to be towed back to the dock.
Panacea Marine was called after the failure to diagnose the problem and inform the customer with documentation.
During inspection, I found the engine-mounted fuel filter was not secured in the mounting bracket designed for it, and a large section of the fuel-filter O-ring was missing. The damaged seal allowed air into the fuel system, resulting in the stall and no-start condition.
Saving money on service only works when the job is completed correctly. Once the boat breaks down, needs a tow, loses a holiday weekend, and requires the same work to be performed again, the “cheaper” option can become the most expensive one.
The cheapest service is rarely the cheapest once the work has to be done twice.

Nobody remembers the emails.
Nobody remembers another day at work.
People remember…
Sunrise runs.
Kids catching their first fish.
Watching dolphins off the bow.
Sunsets with friends.
That’s why keeping your boat ready matters.
Have a great day on the water.

Most people notice the shiny gelcoat.
The clean upholstery.
The polished stainless.
But the real reliability is hidden beneath the deck.
Fuel systems.
Electrical connections.
Cooling systems.
Steering components.
Those are the things that get you home safely.
Take care of what you can’t see, and the rest usually takes care of itself.

⛽ That Fuel Smell Isn’t “Just a Boat Thing.”
If you’re smelling gasoline every time you open your bilge or fuel compartment, don’t ignore it.
One of the most common culprits is a worn or deteriorated fuel sending unit gasket.
Over time, heat, ethanol, vibration, and age can cause the gasket to harden, crack, or shrink, allowing fuel vapors or even liquid fuel to escape around the sending unit.
Common signs include:
⛽ A persistent fuel smell
💧 Dampness around the top of the fuel tank
🌡️ Fuel odor that’s stronger on hot days
⚠️ Fuel stains or residue near the sending unit
A leaking gasket isn’t just an inconvenience—it can create a fire hazard inside your boat.
The good news? It’s usually a straightforward repair when caught early.
If you’ve noticed a fuel smell lately, it’s worth having it inspected before your next trip.

Great job! One less foam floor nightmare on a boat.
Bilge Pump Install: One Arm, Full Reach, Boat Yoga
This 13-second time lapse makes it look easy.
What it does not show is my arm blocking any view and my body folded into a position no chiropractor would recommend.
But the new bilge pump is mounted, wired, tested, and ready to do its job.
Boat repair is sometimes less “marine technician” and more “mechanic-shaped pretzel.”
Also, this is the cleanest bilge I’ve seen in quite a while!
