✨ The Same Piece… But Different. ✨

This antique bureau has officially been given a new chapter🤎

Originally made in 1931, this piece had incredible bones and so much history—but it was ready for a refresh.

I refinished the wood in a rich walnut finish, added matte black accents to highlight its beautiful details, and finished it off with brass hardware for just the right touch of warmth and character.

The best part of refinishing antique furniture is preserving what makes a piece special while giving it a look that works beautifully in today’s homes.

95 years later, this bureau is still standing strong… just looking a little different.

That’s what The Same But Different is all about. ❤️

Sometimes you don’t need new furniture… you just need a new look. 💙

This beautiful hutch went from a classic cream white to a bold, beautiful blue for a family who already loved this piece and thy didn’t want to replace it—they simply wanted to give it a new look and a new chapter in their home.

A fresh color can completely transform a piece of furniture.

From cream white ➡️ beautiful Waterloo blue 💙

I absolutely love being able to help give furniture that people already love a whole new look! The Same But Different / Mary Dunderdale

A Little Furniture Transformation ✨

This one was a little extra special because I refinished it for my son. ❤️

It started out as a dated, dark wood table that had definitely seen better days. A little prep, some paint, a fresh finish, and a new pop of hardware later… and it has a whole new look.

I went with a classic deep charcoal/black for the base and kept the wood tone on top to add some warmth and contrast. The new gold-toned k**b was the finishing touch.

Not every piece needs to be replaced. Sometimes it just needs a little vision, some elbow grease, and a fresh start. 😉

Before ➡️ After

And honestly… I’m pretty happy with how this one came out. 🖤

A Hope Chest, Refreshed 🤍

This beautiful hope chest has a story.

It was given to a woman by her husband—a special piece meant to hold the things she was saving for her future and the life they were building together.

Over the years, it had naturally started to show its age. But instead of replacing it, she wanted to refresh it while keeping the meaning and memories that came with it.

So that’s exactly what I did.

I gave the body a fresh, soft white finish while keeping the beautiful wood top and trim exposed. The original details and character are still there, but the piece now feels lighter, brighter, and ready for the next chapter of its story.

I love projects like this because furniture doesn’t have to be brand new to be beautiful.

Sometimes it just needs a little refresh. ✨

And this hope chest gets to keep doing what it was always meant to do—hold memories, treasures, and a little bit of hope for the future. ❤️

Refinishing a 90s hope chest for a customer got me thinking…

How many of us Gen X women are still carrying hopes that expired years ago?

The dreams we were told to have.
The roles we were expected to fill.
The life we thought we’d be living by now.

This old chest isn’t becoming what it was.

It’s becoming something better.

Maybe we can too, you know the same but different 💜 Stay tuned for this lovely ladies transformation
