Nobody has played the piano in years, and it still decides how the living room is arranged.

That is the thing about an upright. It came in through a door that has since been reframed. It weighs more than the sofa and the bookcase together. Somewhere along the way it stopped being furniture and became a structural element. The sofa faces it. The rug was bought around it. Christmas happens beside it.

A couple of companies have probably already come out, looked at it, and passed.

Here is the only part worth saying: it is not a weird request. Weight is the reason a crew and the right equipment exist. You do not have to apologize before you describe it.

This is the week the Halloween box comes down off the garage shelf, and every year it holds the same surprise.

The inflatable pumpkin that has been losing the will to inflate since 2021. A light-up jack-o'-lantern with a crack right where the smile goes. A knot of orange string lights with one bulb out, which means all of them are out, which means an hour on the couch testing bulbs one at a time.

And the fake cobwebs. Nobody in history has ever gotten fake cobwebs back into the bag.

You could spend October fixing all of it. Or you could keep the pieces that still bring the spooky and let the rest retire with some dignity.

What is the one decoration at your house that refuses to die?

The fastest way to find help on a bad morning is to ask the neighborhood.

Somebody posts it before 9: old couch on the curb, the pickup fell through, who do you use? By 9:15 there are six answers, a side debate about gutters, and one neighbor who just types the name of a company and nothing else, which is the highest compliment a neighbor can give.

Neighbors on Nextdoor named us a Neighborhood Fave in 2023. That is the kind of recommendation an award like that is made of: one "who do you use" thread at a time.

So if you have ever answered one of those posts with our name, thank you. And if your plan fell through this morning, same-day service is exactly what we are here for.

Nobody alive knows the combination.

The safe was in the basement when the house was bought. It is green, it is solid steel, and the door has been hanging open for as long as anyone can remember, which means the only thing it has protected in years is air. The last owners left it behind because it was too heavy to take. You have kept it for the same reason.

It was built so nobody could carry it off. It turns out that includes the people who own it.

Safes are a normal call here, and nobody on the crew will make a face at it. Tell us roughly how big it is and what the basement stairs look like, and the crew shows up with the equipment and a plan for every step between that corner and the truck.

What came with your house that nobody could get out?

The pool table came apart easier than it went in. Everyone says this, and everyone is wrong until the day it happens.

It is slate. It is heavier than the room it is in. Whoever put it down there did it before the door frame got replaced, which is a detail you only discover at the worst possible moment.

Two companies have already looked at it and made a face. That face is why people start these calls apologizing.

You do not need to. Name the object, tell us what the stairs look like, and let us worry about the corner it will not clear.

Anyone else got a basement item that got in but has never come out?

09/16/2026

A wood shed that had been standing in the yard longer than anyone wanted to admit. Not a hauling job at the start, a dismantling one: the crew took it apart piece by piece before any of it could go on the truck, then cleaned up the footprint where it had been.

Carol wrote afterward:

"Spartan Junk removal recently removed an old wood shed. The guys worked extremely hard dismantling and taking away the shed. Great price and clean up too. I highly recommend Spartan Junk!"

The part we care about in that one is the last bit about cleanup. A teardown is only finished when the ground looks like nothing was ever built on it.

The new couch is beautiful. The old couch is in the driveway, because the delivery crew said that was not their job and drove away.

So now there is a couch outside your house. It is going to rain Thursday. Everyone walking a dog has an opinion about it.

This is the call we get most often on a weekday afternoon, and it always starts with a little embarrassment that it is even happening. It is not your fault. The installer said no at the door, the county already came this week, and the couch does not care about any of that.

We can usually get it today. That is the whole answer, and it is the only part of this you needed.

What is the strangest thing a delivery crew has ever refused to take for you?

There is a specific feeling about ten minutes after a garage gets cleared, and nobody warns you about it.

You stand there. You look at the floor, which you have not seen in a while. And then your eyes drift, slowly, toward the door to the basement.

That is how this goes. Clearing one room does not finish a house. It just moves the conversation along.

We are not going to pretend that is a bad thing. It is our favourite thing.

Which room started yours?

This week we have lost a lot of wonderful entertainers who touched our lives, shaped our values, and helped teach us leadership through their roles and stories.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them, their families, friends, and everyone who has been touched by their work.

Moving is the only time you will hold every object you own and pass judgment on it.

By day three you have made about four hundred rulings and the quality is falling off a cliff. Day one you were thoughtful. Day three you are keeping a broken umbrella because putting it down counts as another decision.

That is why the last week of a move goes sideways. Not the boxes. The judging.

So stop judging. Point at the corner you are finished with and let somebody else handle the physics.

What did you pack purely because you ran out of energy to decide?
