When Should Employees Have Their Hearing Tested? 👂
Hearing loss is one of the most common work-related health concerns — and it can happen gradually without an employee realizing it.
Employees who regularly work around loud equipment, machinery, construction activities, or other high-noise environments may be at risk for occupational hearing loss.
Why are workplace hearing tests important?
🔹 They establish a baseline. An initial audiogram provides a reference point for an employee's hearing.
🔹 They can identify changes over time. Regular testing can help detect shifts in hearing before an employee notices a significant difference.
🔹 They help employers monitor workplace noise exposure. Audiometric testing can be an important component of an overall hearing conservation program.
🔹 Early identification matters. Recognizing hearing changes early can help employers and employees take steps to reduce further exposure and protect hearing.
For employees exposed to potentially hazardous noise, hearing protection and a properly designed hearing conservation program are important parts of workplace safety.
At HealthWorks-WNY, we provide occupational audiometric testing for employers throughout Western New York.
