If only these old walls could tell the story of the last few years. 🤍

We started working on this 1900 home in early March of 2023, moving my studio and our business workshop here with plans to renovate it room by room. Over the next 2½ years, that’s exactly what we did—with a few unexpected turns along the way.

We quickly realized the renovation would involve far more dust, debris, and disruption than we had anticipated. Painting furniture in the middle of it all wasn’t going to work, so I moved my painting back to my store studio while we continued working on the house.

When we bought this property, we were also finishing renovations on what we thought would be our retirement home. But 2023 had other plans for us. We moved my in-laws into their second home here in Kansas, and just a few months later, we were calling that place home, too.

We eventually sold our home and began renovating our new living space. That meant putting this old house on hold for a while, although it continued to serve as a workspace for our furniture business.

Progress came between work, family responsibilities, and the changes we hadn’t seen coming. Looking at the before and after reminds me how much those smaller steps have added up.

Today, this house is about 85% complete. Two upstairs rooms and a garage area are still waiting for their turn. In the meantime, it’s a working part of our everyday lives—the place where we paint, repair furniture.

What does the future hold for this old home? We’re still figuring that out. For now, we’re proud of how far it’s come and grateful we can keep giving it new life.

Taking it one day at a time. 🤍

Such an amazing find. This is an early 1900’s Antique Robert Keith Mahogany Étagère Bookcase Cabinet. I asked AI to do some research for me and this was made in the early 1900’s in Kansas City. Here’s what AI says..

Robert Keith – Kansas City, Missouri maker/dealer plaque. Robert Keith Furniture & Carpet Company was a prominent Kansas City furnishings company established in the late 19th century and known for supplying quality furniture throughout the region.
