After many meaningful years, Monsoonblue will soon come to a close.
The idea behind Monsoonblue was born decades ago during the early 1990s while I operated a progressive furniture manufacturing business in Chicago. Those years shaped my belief that well designed, authentic furniture, combined with a direct to consumer approach, could offer something far more meaningful than the traditional retail model.
While I formally established the Monsoonblue trademark in 2017, the intention at the time was to preserve the idea for a future opportunity.
In 2025, I finally committed to the brand full time and officially expanded Monsoonblue nationally across the United States through a network of warehouses, distribution channels, and international factory partnerships. It became the largest and most successful chapter in the brand’s history.
We survived Covid, freight instability, trade wars, supply chain disruptions, and explored domestic manufacturing in an effort to continue moving forward responsibly. But the realities of today’s global manufacturing and economic landscape ultimately proved too difficult for a small independent brand like ours to sustain long term.
Many of you came to know me simply as Jose. Over the years, I personally spoke with customers from across the country about furniture, architecture, materials, deliveries, and life itself. Those conversations always meant far more to me than simply selling furniture.
I am deeply saddened by this outcome, but incredibly proud of what we built together.
The customers who supported Monsoonblue, along with the efforts of my team, factories, craftsmen, photographers, and partners over the years, will always remain a part of my soul and my life’s work.
The future is a wonderful thing because we never truly know where the road ahead may lead.
Thank you for believing in Monsoonblue and for allowing our work into your homes and lives.
With sincere gratitude,
Jose Refugio De La Cruz
