This was a fun restoration. It’s a New Haven 30-Hour Ogee Clock from the 1850’s. The glass is reverse painted to depict this image of the Burns Monument in Scotland. After extensive veneer repair and finish work, some additional pieces had to be crafted which had disappeared in the last 180 years. Isn’t it stunning?

It was pressed cane week at the shop. The first 6 chairs got complete tune-ups with joints replaced and reglued, then new seats and dye. The next 8 chairs got seats and backs, then a three step process of color and glazing to give them a distressed, vintage look.

I’d like to offer a special shoutout to a very skilled jewelry designer and all around lovely person, Cristy Cali. I’ve watched her grow her brand and build a following while honing her fantastic skills as a designer and creator as well as a her marketing prowess. This old secretary cabinet came in with a LOT of paint. Gold paint, white paint, more gold paint! Everywhere. The client wanted a lighter finish to match their other furniture. Finished with my in-house oil varnish recipe - old school.

This chair came in with part of its leg missing. The broken piece was accidentally discarded. I turned a new leg section and the finished it to match following installation. Always fun to use the lathe!

Most of the work here is on chairs and smaller pieces, but I do get asked to do a little bit of everything. This client's husband fell into the mirror and shattered it. This was a 5/16" antique mirror and would have cost close to $700 for a 1/4" modern replacement with the bevel. I added some wood, trimmed the original moldings, and added a $68 mirror from Lowes. A little sanding and paint, and voila.... back in business. Limited incomes are... limiting, and this was a solution that enabled them to enjoy what they were used to.

Don’t throw out your old chairs. They are now high fashion!
