The four dressers are finally ready for delivery to Snowshoe. I’ve been battling humidity/paint issues a lot this summer…extended dry times for sure! The next project is a hickory and pine king size bed with a drawer base under it and a storage shelf/tv stand to match. This client got some bunk beds from me a couple years ago. One of the bunks matches the new furniture on order.

Trying to get these dressers painted but Mother Nature is killing me this summer. The high humidity and rain for a big part of the summer won’t let the paint dry/cure like normal. This morning the humidity was at 90%…down to 75% currently. It’s taking 2-3 times as long to dry to the touch, and even then, it’s taking a couple weeks to cure so it’s not tacky when left stacked together. What a pain and causing extra work if something sticks and pulls paint off! 😵‍💫😢. I’ve got parts stacked everywhere!

Have the 18 drawer fronts to finish, primer the inside of 6 drawers, and I’ll finally be ready to sand and paint the 4 dressers for a client. Then installing all the drawers and hardware will complete the project, make it ready for delivery to Snowshoe. There was a change in height (make shorter) just after I got the cabinets and face frames built, so had to go back and make them 10” shorter before I could continue. So that’s thrown me off a little on timing, but will be done soon and on to the next order.

When building end grain cutting boards, there is significantly more sanding than strip boards. I use these grits (from top) 60 grit, 80, 100, 150, 220, and 320. I sometimes go to 400 and 600 foe decorative, oiled pieces…like something that goes on a shelf, etc. Strip boards usually start at 150 grit (sometimes 100 if it’s exceptionally rough grain) and go up in grit size. The higher the number, the finer the grit. By 600 you can hardly feel any roughness on the sandpaper even when new. Plus, on boards with juice grooves or like the grooves on the trivets below, I sand the grooves with a dowel wrapped in sandpaper.

Stars are going on. Then the edge frame and back get sprayed black. Once the frame is installed, the clear satin lacquer will finish these flags tomorrow. When they dry, I’ll put the hanger wire on the backs and they’re ready for sale.
