This is not what the cottage looks like today as we are doing a bit of an update, so stay tuned! I have spent the morning ironing my napkins! So very old fashioned of me but I was thinking how well our linen napkins survive. I have so many as we sell them and some years we actually entertain! We have focused on making sustainable products as well as buying them. It’s rather joyful to organize myself on this beautiful Sunday morning and know that I sell goods I’ll probably be ironing for a few more years! Behind every candle is a story! Our evolution is rich in those who framed us. Our logo is an image of Eunice and Henry. Eunice is my grandmother and Henry was a friend of hers when she was 3. Little does Henry know that he lights up our day! Our gunslinger candle is my father, William J. Mcgraw. He was a fearless and mischievous leader. He sent this picture to my mother when he was in college in Montana. He signed it “Ivy league Gunslinger”, which is exactly what he was. I could go on but you get it. To further the intrigue, we actually make our candles, in house, here in L.A. Personally, I never thought I would be so lucky to create and curate such joy! For 25 of our 27 years I worked most of our Sundays. It was my day to garden, to meet with people, I enjoyed the connection and the creativity. Today, I’m baking bread and maybe painting and feeding my soul. I still spend plenty of time taking care of the shoppe but we have thrived and grown. Transitions are scary yet filled the growth and freedom. We may be one of the oldest independent shops on Abbot Kinney but our spirit is young! Open today from 11 till 5!
