Cygnus Lumber & Millworks is a family owned lumber yard in Pungo, southern Virginia Beach. We carry a large selection of kiln dried furniture quality hardwoods that are responsibly sourced or harvested from our farm. We are engaged in silviculture and hold a sustainable forestry certification through the Virginia Tree Farm Foundation. This commitment to sustainable forestry places Cygnus Lumber a unique position to consistently provide the highest quality hardwood lumber to local woodworkers and hobbyists in the Hampton Roads area. We always carry a large stock of hardwoods including walnut, cherry, soft/hard maple, southern yellow pine, white ash, hickory, live edge slabs including walnut and white oak, eastern & red cedar and cypress.

Ever wonder why the ends of our stacks are painted green? End grain dumps moisture fast. If it dries out too quick, the ends split and ruin the tips of your boards. Sealing the ends forces moisture out slowly through the faces so your stock stays flat and usable end-to-end.

Hauling fresh lumber home to a hot, humid shop? Don't run it straight to the saw.
Summer humidity can warp your wood fast if you rush it. Stack your boards so air gets all around 'em, and let 'em settle into your shop's air for a few days before making your first cut.

It takes a little patience, but it keeps your boards flat and saves your glue-ups.
