Hi folks! Amanda here. It’s now been a little over 8 months since Helene ripped through WNC, and so much has happened since then. I had to stop sharing updates publicly for a while because it was all so tender and personal. The internet isn’t really a helpful place for grief and nuanced change, and that’s okay.
The short of it: I’m now back in Brooklyn and moving into a new studio in Gowanus this week 😱
The long of it: My husband Blake started a new job about the same time as the storm, and we quickly discovered that the best thing for his career was for us to be back in NYC. I’d always thought we’d be in Waynesville for many years to come, but the decision to leave came with total peace and anticipation for what’s next.
Place is a collaborator in our lives, so when I began to imagine my woodworking practice in the city, it looked very different than my dreams for Coda in WNC. It looked like smaller scale, greater margins, and more creative freedom.
So what can you expect? I won’t be taking on any fully custom commissions or wholesale orders. I’ve had plenty of time to imagine up new ideas, including a new body of work involving textiles and new smalls for the online shop. More “studio practice,” less “consumer goods brand.”
If you’re a craftsperson in Brooklyn or nearby and don’t already have too many friends I would love to come visit your studio and say hi 🤓 Please reach out!
Pictured is my *200 SQUARE FOOT* studio in which I will entertain you with my Tetris skills as I get the space built out in the coming weeks.
Thanks again to everyone for your support and encouragement post-disaster. I couldn’t be navigating these changes now without it ❤️
