Homeschooling: where the lesson plans are flexible, the coffee (or caffeine) is necessary, and somehow Mom is the principal, teacher, nurse, janitor AND lunch lady.

A little snapshot of our learning—8th grade edition!

He’s especially enjoying Physical Science and Algebra 1 with Mr. Harmon teaching both courses. It’s encouraging to see his understanding grow as he works through new concepts, one lesson at a time.

We’ve also started his high school transcript this year! I’m researching all things SAT/ACT, transcripts, colleges and credits as we look ahead.

What’s one thing your child is enjoying learning right now? I’d love to hear!

The Story of Tim Tebow was linked in the Grade 6 Writing & Grammar (3rd ed.) Lesson 36 today, and this is just one of the many reasons I love BJU Press.

The Lord knew my little guy needed to see this example of Colossians 3:23:

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men…”

This has actually been part of some recent conversations we’ve had with him as he’s beginning to find success on the baseball field. We’ve been talking about what it looks like to work hard, use the abilities God has given you, and remember Who you are ultimately doing it for.

I love when something in our school day lines up so perfectly with what God is already teaching our kids in real life. Sometimes a lesson is about so much more than Writing & Grammar.

Did you know your student can type directly into the Guided Notes while watching their BJU Press video lesson?

This is one of those Homeschool Hub features that can make note-taking so much easier! We open the Guided Notes as a PDF and put them in a second window beside the video. My kids can type their answers directly into the notes as the teacher goes through the lesson.

Just remember to save the PDF when you’re finished so you don’t lose your student’s work!

Questions about BJU Press video courses or the Homeschool Hub? I’d love to help!

World Studies 7 started a little differently this year—with a field trip

I get asked all the time, “Do I really need the Teacher’s Edition?”

My answer—yes! Even if you’re using the BJU Press video courses, you’ll receive a digital copy of the Teacher’s Edition, and I use ours regularly.

The TE is so much more than an answer key. It includes lesson resources, background information, discussion and critical-thinking questions, activities, grading rubrics, vocabulary, teaching tips, math solutions, and more.

The video teacher may be doing the teaching, but the Teacher’s Edition gives me a great way to stay involved, see what my kids are learning, help when they get stuck, and dig a little deeper when needed.

Definitely a resource worth knowing how to use!

We are really enjoying Bible 8 – The Life of Christ with all three of my students this year!

The content has been so good, but I think I’ve enjoyed the conversations it has sparked around our table even more. I love when a lesson goes beyond simply completing an assignment and gets us talking, thinking, and applying what we’re learning to everyday life.

There are so many great Bible options for the middle school years, but The Life of Christ has definitely been a favorite for us!

What’s on your reading list right now?

These are a few books on mine! I love having a mix of books that challenge me, encourage me, and help me grow—personally, spiritually, and as a homeschool mom.

I’m always looking for my next good read, so I’d love some recommendations! Drop your favorites in the comments!
