U.S. 🤝 VIETNAM TRADE DEAL: GOOD NEWS FOR FURNITURE EXPORTS
On July 2, 2025, Vietnam and the U.S. reached a preliminary trade agreement just before a planned 46% tariff was set to take effect.
Key outcomes:
• 20% tariff on Vietnamese exports to the U.S.
• 40% tariff on goods suspected of third-country transshipment
• 0% tariff on U.S. exports to Vietnam
This is a positive signal for Vietnam’s furniture industry, especially outdoor furniture, helping maintain access to the U.S. market and avoid severe trade disruption.
Further details will be finalized in upcoming negotiations.

Vietnam-U.S. Tariff Dynamics: A Balancing Act

WASHINGTON D.C. – The intricate dance of trade relations between Vietnam and the United States continues, marked by past tariff threats and ongoing diplomatic efforts. While the Trump administration previously eyed a significant 46% tariff on Vietnamese goods (projected for April 2025), a move that sent ripples through major supply chains like Nike and Samsung, Vietnam has actively engaged to counter these pressures. Vietnam has proactively sought to balance the trade scales, even taking steps to reduce import tariffs on certain U.S. goods (effective March 2025). This reciprocal gesture underscores a clear commitment to fostering a more equitable trade environment.

Recently, trade dialogue has intensified. Vietnam and the U.S. just concluded their second round of negotiations (May 19-22, 2025) in Washington D.C., aiming to find common ground. The focus remains on boosting domestic production in Vietnam, attracting further U.S. investment, and ensuring mutual benefits. Despite potential challenges, Vietnam's strategic importance in the global supply chain, coupled with these active negotiations, suggests a continued robust growth trajectory for Vietnam-U.S. trade relations.
