Our latest mmakesspace products, designed by 𝐋𝐄𝐙𝐀 Sustainable Designer, look at the creative possibilities that exist when repurposing off-cuts from our manufacturing process.

Mohair supplied by Woven Waste and leather have found their way into slippers and beautiful scatter cushions, while fabric offcuts have been transformed into bags, purses and even hats.

Our MakeSpace initiative helps keep us accountable. It reminds us to look at what we’re using, what we’re throwing away and where there might be an opportunity to do things differently.

We know there is still a long road ahead to being truly sustainable, both as a business and as a planet. That said, sometimes change can start with something as small as a pair of slippers.

The latest MakeSpace products are available at our showroom: 32 Napier Street, De Waterkant.

“They don’t make things like they used to.” It’s an old saying we’ve all heard before. One that speaks to a time when furniture was built to last.

While the world around us has changed, the way we make furniture hasn’t.

For us, quality isn’t just about the timber we choose or the fabric we upholster with. It’s about how every piece is made. Every length of timber handled by hand. Every piece of fabric measured before it’s cut. Every pattern made from scratch.

When every piece passes through so many hands, there’s a level of care and attention to detail that mass production simply can’t replicate.

In the pride our team takes in their work. In the experience they’ve built over decades. And in the belief that if something is worth making, it’s worth making well.

Some things really were made differently back then.

At Wunders, they still are.

Over the last half century, we’ve watched furniture design evolve. We’ve seen styles come and go and a new generation of designers shape the way we live today.

The Wunders story is told through the golden thread that ties the old with the new. One that keeps classic design at the heart of modern living and generations of furniture making relevant in today’s world.

When Laura Wunder opened our De Waterkant showroom in 2011, her vision was to create a space where Wunders met design. A place where furniture wasn’t simply viewed, but experienced. Where every piece invited you to touch, to feel and to understand the story behind it.

Women’s Day in South Africa exists because of the courage of 20,000 women who, on 9 August 1956, marched to have their voices heard.

Nearly 70 years later, that courage continues to live on in women across our country.

At Wunders, we’re fortunate to work alongside women whose strength shows itself in different ways every day. Women who have raised families, built careers, overcome challenges and continue to show up with resilience, kindness and determination. Women inspired by their mothers, grandmothers and aunts, and who are now inspiring the next generation themselves.

On Sunday, we celebrate the women who came before us, the women beside us and the women who are still to come.

Wunders manufactured a custom upholstered banquette seating to complement the bold colours and playful 1980s diner-inspired interior of 🔴 Arthur’s Mini Super 🔴.

Arthur’s Mini Super is a retro-themed neighbourhood café, deli and bar tucked away in Sea Point. By day it’s a breakfast and lunch spot. By night, it transforms into a cosy w**e bar. Some patrons claim that it serves some of the best toasties in Cape Town.

Designed specifically for the space and made in our Cape Town factory, our banquette seating is built for morning coffees, long lunches and evenings that stretch a little later than planned.
