The Shianne Chair is one of our early classics, a piece that has been part of the Wunders story from the beginning.

Named by Laura Wunders, the name comes from her daughter Jade’s horse called Shianne. A small detail that ties this piece back to our Wunders family.

The deep buttoned detailing is one of Steven’s favourite processes in the factory, giving the chair its distinctive character. A shape that leans into something more classic.

Often paired with the Shianne Ottoman, it remains a timeless piece, made by hand right here in Cape Town.

Furniture design has been in our family for three generations. What began with Paul Wunders and his deep understanding of upholstery and top quality fabrics to his son, Peter who officially put the Wunders name on the front of the building in 1995.

But to take a step back, one of Paul’s proudest moments came in 1983, when Peter decided to follow in his footsteps and opened Upholster All. With only two staff members, they went door to door, offering custom upholstery services to homes across Cape Town.

10 years later, with the Wunders factory and retail store in full swing, the business grew quickly. We were soon awarded a number of hospitality contracts, including the , who remain a valued client to this day.

When it all comes down to it, Wunders is about quality. Handmade furniture, design styles that move across eras, and the people who make it all possible.

Right in the middle of Cape Town, The Trade Boutique Hotel feels like a little world of its own. Colour everywhere, each room with its own personality, and something beautiful to see around every corner.

We love that we got to be part of this, with our classic McKinley Sofas upholstered in deep velvet colours for these stunning bedrooms.

There is something really special about working in a building with history, and then seeing it reimagined like this. Old bones, new energy, and classic designs curated in a completely fresh way.

We love knowing our furniture will be part of this family’s story, from dinner nights to birthday celebrations and cosy moments on the couch. These are the memories that fill a home, and the reason we make pieces that are built to last for generations.

Wunders has always been built by more than one generation, and around 30 years ago, when the late Laura Wunders stepped in, something shifted.

Laura brought her keen eye and a belief that furniture could be more than functional. She was the one who opened our De Waterkant showroom, creating a space where Wunders furniture and interior services could come together.

This was where manufacturing and design met.

Bianca, Laura’s daughter, remembers how, as a little girl, she would visit friends and check under their sofa cushions for the iconic Wunders mark. Having grown up in the business, she has watched it transform over decades while staying true to its values.

Today, we continue to create pieces that age with you. Furniture that becomes part of your life, carries your history and can be handed down.

We say it often, but it’s true. We would be nothing without our team.

Some of the faces here have been part of Wunders for two and even three decades. We have had the privilege of growing alongside them over the years, as lives unfolded and Wunders evolved too.

Our team is not separate from the business. They are the business. The pieces that last lifetimes carry their dedication, their care and their history.

This is as much their story as it is ours.
