専念 (Sennen): Devotion, undivided attention to a task.

The concept of 専念 (sennen) represents the Japanese art of single-minded focus. It demands the complete elimination of outside distractions to master a single craft.

This state of undivided attention requires a person to merge their mind, body, and action into one task.

🖤 House van der Vorm.

We have a couple of slots left for 2027.
Give us a shout if you would like to work with us.

House Rovere: Casa di famiglia. La famiglia è tutto

Not all homes are built to be equal. This home is particularly built around the fact of creating a space of solitude for those close to one’s heart. This project was a labour of love.

Much love to the Family Rovere.

PS. RIP bully. We love you. 🖤

Kaizen 改善 : The Process of continuous improvement.

I’ve been asked allot lately about what goals are and how I set them. Not sure if it’s an age thing, being at this stage of your business, but it had me thinking about it for a while.

The short answer is I don’t think I have them really. There’s no certain amount of projects I want to do each year, or reach this financial milestone by selling “x” amount of kitchens.

I’m just more focused on the process.
Or put differently, I’m focused on doing the thing rather than achieving some thing.

Why, because this I can control. I can control waking up every morning and giving my best, getting lost in the process of doing and making. This allows me to immerse myself in the craft, and to build consistency and character and I believe that that discipline to show up every day to better yourself will ultimately lead to success.

Focus on the little incremental improvements, focus on working with the best partners and suppliers, focus on getting that perfect finish. How ever small it may seem on the day, over the years they stack up and when you start counting they make all the difference.

Much love and kindness.

Apartment Daniel.

There is something about archways that have been very inspiring lately. In love with how energy flows from one room to the next. Effortlessly.

I have not posted much in the last 12 months but we’ve been very blessed with a some really incredible clients, making sure we’re being kept busy honing our craft. Projects have also grown organically, this little job that was originally planned to be a very quick petite kitchen in between two other jobs, but ended up being a complete apartment rebuild taking up pretty much the whole first 4 months of the year.

It’s time to regroup a bit and get a couple of post done before we get ready to go on our mid year mini sabbatical.

To those always following thanks for the love. We appreciate it. 🙏

“Tanjun” (単純) - In Japanese philosophy and art Tanjun generally translates to simplicity, simple, or uncomplicated.

It’s a concept that emphasizes directness, naturalness, and a rejection of excessive ornamentation or complexity.

This kitchen embraces this philosophy of simple, refined, and effortless of its function.

The function of being able to prepare a home cooked meal, with love.

Happy Mother’s Day.

Here’s to all the First Ladies being the hardest workers in the room.

It’s a fact that without my Wife, mother of my child, and all round superhero, that I would not have been able to create this little business called Frankie Machine.

Humbled, and thank you.

On Choosing a craft that kicks your ass every day.

With business and success comes a certain level of confidence that sometimes can quickly turn to arrogance. This is especially true in today’s age of social media where it has become relatively easy to gain popularity very quickly.

It’s import to have people around you to give you that reality check or even better, when the craft you have chosen is so damn hard that it literally kicks your ass on a daily basis.

Just when you think it’s getting easy you’ll mess something up. You’ll have to cut 15 pieces of timber just to get one cut that doesn’t bow, oil a piece of veneer only to have to sand it all down and repeat the process because there was some residue left that you didn’t see. An easy install can turn into a three week battle, sometimes even longer.

The list goes on and on, but it’s a labour of love that keeps you grounded and humbled.

The end result is ever so satisfying though. And fills the soul with gratitude that we have the opportunity to build beautiful things, and man, do we love beautiful things.

🙏🖤

Simple, but so much energy, love and craft has been poured into this kitchen. Every detail hand cut and made. From all the spruce doors being hand edged to all our bespoke timber handles.

When 2024 started I said I’m not doing another black kitchen but I’m glad we made an exception. The combination of the mesmerizing green depth that the verde guatemala marble brings to the kitchen, combined with the black and the rich warm yellow sunlight that always seem the fill this cabin it work out magically. We’re incredibly happy with the end result.

Some times you need strong a motivation to sit and go through every little detail, making sure that everything is made, installed and done correctly and this time around we kinda built this kitchen as if we were building it for our own home. An insane short deadline of getting it all done in less than a week. You have to do that for yourself, otherwise all that energy goes to waste.

A big shout out to on working with us again and trusting our process. If you are ever in need of interior design services please give Anna a shout. Her instagram is not representative of her vision and talent, believe us when we say she has a special eye for making a room, a home come alive with character and warmth. Also she’s just nice, and live is too short not to work with nice people like.

Once again also a big thanks to the ever so professional crew from doing all the marble fabrication and installation for us. 🙏

Thanks to Wesley and Kevin from for always supplying us with the best hardware in the business.

Happy weekend folks. 🖤

Kanso (簡素) Simplicity or elimination of clutter.

Things are expressed in a plain, simple, natural manner. Reminds us to think not in terms of decoration but in terms of clarity, a kind of clarity that may be achieved through omission or exclusion of the non-essential.

Thanks to all involved with this project.

Okay, so this project has turned out to be a bit of a weird “limbo” one for us. We’re supposed to have been closed for the year already but sometimes there’s all these little things that add up and delay renovations, and with this particular one, being all the torrential rain we had this winter.

Water levels in the house were just not acceptable for installing fine joinery, flooring etc, so a decision was made to put everything on hold for about two months.

We’re nearly there, just waiting for tops to be installed later on Dec with the plumbing etc etc.

So much detail and Love has gone into the design in collaboration with and Lucy along with our wonderful client Tana, and into the manufacturing of the detail and custom panels for the kitchen, wine unit and large sliding glass door.

Really looking forward to getting this one done and seeing the end result. Going to be incredible.

Here’s just a little sneak of what it’s starting to look like.

One last push, let’s do this. ✊
