Applications are now open for the 2026 IPPS NZ International Exchanges!

The IPPS New Zealand Region is offering two incredible opportunities to take your horticulture career global In 2026.

Western Region Exchange (USA & Canada)
Attend the IPPS Western Region conference in Salt Lake City (1-4 September 2026) and connect with growers, nurseries, and researchers across North America.

South African Exchange
Travel to South Africa in October/November 2026 and experience a completely different climate, flora, and propagation systems.
What’s included:
Return travel (including insurance)
Conference registration
Accommodation

Who should apply?
Open to all IPPS members aged 21+, with a focus on those in the early stages of their careers. An amazing chance to build knowledge, networks, and confidence.

In return:
Share your experience with the IPPS NZ community through a conference presentation and a newsletter article.

Applications close: 20 May 2026
You can apply for both exchanges, but different applicants will be selected for each.
This is a rare opportunity to learn, explore, and bring fresh ideas back to New Zealand’s horticulture industry

Meet Demi 🌱

Demi is a horticulturist and researcher specialising in plant propagation, tissue culture, and pollination in subtropical fruit crops, currently based at the University of Pretoria.

With experience in avocado propagation and research alongside her Master’s studies in Horticulture, she brings a strong scientific and practical approach to plant production.

Demi has been selected as the IPPS South African Exchange recipient to Australia for 2026, where she will gain international industry experience, connect with growers, and bring new knowledge back to strengthen horticulture in South Africa.

Meet Sumaya 🌱

Sumaya is a Technical Officer specialising in crop diagnostics, field trial design, and plant and soil health monitoring, currently based at Century Orchards.

With a background in Agricultural Science from the University of Adelaide and hands-on experience across research, laboratory work, and commercial production, she brings a strong analytical and data-driven approach to horticulture.

She’s looking forward to the opportunity to attend the IPPS Conference in Hobart, connect with industry leaders, and apply new knowledge to support innovation within the industry.
