Day 1 of a pool deck handrail replacement, going to enjoy this one!

We loved everything about this installation; the wonderful clients who gave complete trust in our suggestions / design and the implementation thereof; we used smaller timber dimensions on the structural pergola as we want to keep the look quite minimal and not overly heavy.
The privacy screen horizontal braces will come off once the wood has cured, (1 season) which will leave uninterrupted vertical slats.
The client requested the bench seat arm rests to be oversized so they could be used as a mini side table, which works really well, and removable duck boards on the tiled surface.
Happy days!
Garapa hardwood throughout / German Spax fixings on the bench.

The initial stages of a unified bench seating (with internal storage) pergola and screen feature; excited to bring all 4 separate areas together!

We completed this Padel court deck recently; with a major part of the brief being that the deck entrance needed to fit in with the curved perimeter of the landscaping…..Duly obliged!
Curved decks are always labour intensive and require a lot of know-how to install, but always worth the effort.
140mm Garapa hardwood, sealed with 5 coats of quality acrylic deck sealer.

Here’s a teaser of a nearly completed project where the brief was to build a seating area deck at the entrance to a newly installed Padel Court, also ensuring that we follow the gardens curved landscaping lines, each steps tread and riser mirror the curved cobblestone border running throughout the garden.
Curved decks are super labour intensive and take a lot of know-how to achieve correctly, always a challenge but also rewarding.
Nearly done! Phew 😅

We have also just completed the Sand & Seal to this internal entertainment sun lounge area consisting of 2 rooms of hardwood decking; again we removed every screw and countersunk before reinstating the screws so sanding could commence.
As internal we could not apply oxalic acid, so deeper sanding was required to get as many of the aged marks out as possible before applying the sealer; here we used Swedish Bona Traffic clear sealer, 1 primer and 2 top coats.
A very high quality sealer that will last.

We have just finished an extensive overhaul and sanding back this deck from a sun bleached grey deck to a smart clear acrylic sealer, revealing the beautiful aged brown yellow tones of Garapa hardwood.
Quite a process along with the repairs to remove every screw, countersinking and reinstating before we could start sanding back 214m2 of decking.
X 1 primer coat and x 4 top coats of Woodoc acrylic deck sealer (light sand given after the 2nd coat)
Oxalic acid applied prior to sealing.
Phew! 😅 14 large black bags of sawdust removed.
Although sealing any deck is a time consuming exercise with a higher degree of outlay, it does preserve the lifespan of a deck considerably, as well as giving a very different feel and look.

Whilst the team are in Constantia I got back on the tools today to put the finishing marine cable touches to this elevated deck; treated Pine substructure with the top surface painted with a black waterproofing acrylic paint, and a 140mm Garapa hardwood deck surface laid / 70 x 70 vertical Garapa posts with side cheek cutouts and bolted to the main support timber and a 32 x 108mm Garapa handrail.
M16 marine cable with end tensioners.
As always great work by the whole team (including a guest appearance by moi!)

Day 1 breaking ground on this elevated deck and marine cable handrail to an extensive house renovation.

A small set of Ash steps finished in an almost invisible sealer which is a UK product we like to use when the client prefers a more natural organic look to the wood, not a cheap sealer but we always recommend using the very best when using sealers.
