Our Managing Director, Tariq Fensham, and Financial and Technical Director, Creighton Schlebach, attended the African Boating Conference in Cape Town last week.

As a specialist supplier to the yacht-building industry, it is important for Jo Fensham to be part of the conversations shaping boating in Africa – connecting with industry colleagues, sharing ideas and keeping close to the innovation, opportunities and challenges influencing our sector.

The two-day conference culminated in the annual SABBEX Awards Dinner, where Creighton was honoured with the Innovation in the Limelight Award – a particularly special ending to a valuable two days for the Jo Fensham team.

We are incredibly proud to share that our Financial and Technical Director, Creighton Schlebach, was presented with the prestigious Innovation in the Limelight Award at last night’s Spotlight – the SABBEX / Boating SA Boatbuilding Awards.

The award recognises individuals whose ideas drive progress and excellence through creativity, technical expertise and problem-solving – and we can think of few people more deserving.

Creighton’s ability to look at challenges differently has led to numerous improvements at Jo Fensham, most notably the development of the Jo Fensham Digital Service (JFDS).

JFDS enables a yacht to be digitally scanned and its accurate records retained, allowing replacement cushions, covers and soft furnishings to be manufactured in Cape Town in the future without the vessel needing to be measured again – wherever in the world it may be.

It is innovation with a very practical purpose, combining technology with the craftsmanship at the heart of Jo Fensham.

Tariq Fensham, our Managing Director, is always in on the action – chatting to the team, checking the details, working through ideas and finding better ways of doing things together.

This morning, Tariq and Lameez from Jo Fensham were on board a Balance 502, installing custom-made crew covers over the upholstered seating.

Crew covers are removable protective covers, made to fit over the yacht’s cushions and upholstery. They can be used while the yacht is being prepared and commissioned, as well as by owners during trips to help keep the upholstery protected.

They are also one of the many additional items we manufacture alongside our yacht cushions, beds and interior and exterior upholstery - practical, custom-made details designed specifically for life on board.

We are excited to share that entries for The Jo Fensham Yacht Furniture Design Prize 2026, in collaboration with the Cape Institute for Architecture, have now closed.

It has been inspiring to see the creativity and talent coming through, and now the exciting process of judging begins.

We cannot wait to see how this journey unfolds and to share more in the weeks ahead. Watch this space for updates.

You can see the energy and enjoyment in these photographs. It has been wonderful to watch our team embrace the training, grow in confidence and engage with new ways of thinking and solving problems.

Developed specifically for Jo Fensham Yacht Upholstery, High Seas is a bespoke training programme facilitated by Keith Struthers, Gabi and Sue from Keith Struthers Studios. The programme encourages creative, out-of-the-box thinking, looking at challenges from different perspectives, identifying knowledge gaps and strengthening the skills and confidence our team brings to their work every day.

There’s plenty of learning happening — and plenty of laughter along the way too.

With so many beautiful photos from our Heritage Day celebrations, we couldn’t choose just a few - so we’ll be sharing some today and more tomorrow!

Ahead of Heritage Day tomorrow, the Jo Fensham Yacht Upholstery team celebrated today with a good old South African braai, traditional dress and plenty of colour, laughter and team spirit.

One particularly special moment was seeing our Managing Director, Tariq Fensham, in the beautiful dress handmade for her by Grace — a gift made with such care and one that Tariq absolutely loves.

We are incredibly fortunate to have a team made up of people with different stories, cultures and traditions — and days like today are a lovely reminder of just how much there is to celebrate.

We’re absolutely thrilled by the response to this inaugural competition in collaboration with Cape Institute of Architecture

In this reel, Tariq Fensham and Michael Borgström share their excitement at seeing 114 people registered to take part - far beyond what we initially anticipated.

With such a strong response from the design community, we cannot wait to see the creativity, thinking and talent that comes through in the final submissions.
