Stripped: Adjective: Having or containing the bare essentials, with no added features or accessories

2 guys who were tired of digital tools and soft hands, made a swift escape from the corporate world into furniture design, upcycling and restoration. We grew beards, hammered our fingers, broke out the power tools and hardened the *bleep* up to bring you bespoke lifestyle pieces. So if you have a

The Koppie – Blonde Edition 1, a strictly limited collection of 3,000 chairs. Each piece is individually serial numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity, marking its place in the first production edition.

Crafted from Sustainably sourced Prime White Oak and finished in a natural, low-VOC semi-matt Osmo Polyx Oil, Koppie also features splines made from archived African hardwood offcuts — collected over years of furniture manufacture and shopfitting. These details give each chair its own quiet individuality.

Koppie is designed to sit perfectly between functional furniture and collectible design — built to be used daily yet cherished for years to come. Comfort was a priority, and we are proud to say you can enjoy sitting on it for hours without compromise.

Approximate Dimensions:

Seat width: 420 mm
Footprint: 500 mm × 492 mm
Overall height: 768 mm

We want to sincerely thank .capetown furnitureweek.capetown and for the opportunity to take part in Cape Town Furniture Week.

To be included among so many talented designers and makers was something we don’t take for granted. We arrived feeling grateful simply to participate, and we left feeling encouraged and deeply inspired.

Weeks like this remind us that design is a shared pursuit — built on generosity, dialogue, and a collective desire to elevate the standard.

Thank you for creating a platform that brings people together and allows studios like ours to grow quietly, steadily, and meaningfully.

We’re honoured to have been part of it.

Behind the KOPPIE – Duck Joint

Every detail of the KOPPIE is considered, but its joinery is the signature. The legs meet the body through the “Duck Joint,” a bespoke housing joint conceived by Stripped Studio—a rare moment where engineering and expression converge.

Rather than conceal the mechanics, we reveal them. The joint reads as deceptively simple, yet every angle rewards scrutiny, exposing the precision and thought behind its construction. It is a study in tension: playfulness contained within exacting craft.

Archived African hardwoods punctuate the joint as subtle splines, reinforcing the form while nodding to the continent’s material legacy. The seat, hand-saddled to perfection, offers comfort grounded in both tradition and contemporary design.

Each KOPPIE is an invitation to engage, to linger, and to collect a piece that bridges art, design, and heritage.

Behind the KOPPIE – CNC

The KOPPIE embodies Stripped Studio’s evolution, where handcraft enters dialogue with machine precision. CNC milling establishes its geometry with exacting clarity, while hand finishing softens every edge, reintroducing the presence of the human hand.

The true distinction lies in the tension between control and restraint: technology defines the form, but the hand—negotiating the “torment of the ideal”—resolves each piece. Variation, material resistance, and subtle imperfection grant every KOPPIE its own character, creating an object as thoughtful as it is rare.

A piece for those who collect not merely furniture, but moments of craftsmanship, design, and material mastery.

Behind the Koppie – Steam Bending

In a world of mass production, steam bending remains deliberately slow.
The technique dates back centuries, yet it feels most at home in contemporary collectible design — where process carries as much weight as form.

Steam is introduced gradually, penetrating deep into the timber fibres until they soften just enough to allow movement. There is a narrow window where the material becomes responsive. Miss it, and the piece is lost.
The Koppie’s backrest is bent from a single length of solid timber, forming its sculptural cup through tension and control alone. No laminations. No engineered curvature. Just material, heat and restraint.

Clamped. Left to rest. Days pass while the fibres settle into their new memory.
What emerges is not simply a chair, but a quiet object of presence — balanced, architectural, intentional. Each small batch carries subtle variations in grain and tone, making every piece slightly singular.

Not all furniture is meant to be owned, some pieces are meant to be collected.

KOPPIE

The reinterpretation of African vernacular through contemporary design.

Rather than replicating the traditional three-legged stool, it's form is distilled to structural essence-three points of contact and a singular continuous curve.

Grounded yet refined, ancient in posture and contemporary in expression, Koppie exists as a quiet synthesis of traditional, structure, and modern design.

Now on show at Cape Town Furniture Week.

Looking back on Decorex 2023 with full hearts.
Even though we didn’t exhibit this year, we’ve been reminiscing about the incredible experience we had in 2023 — the conversations, the creative sparks, and the connections we made with clients and fellow makers.

One of the standout moments was our Design & Win Your Own Coffee Table competition. Collaborating with future clients on their designs, materials, and ideas was an experience we won’t forget.

Our winner just sent us these beautiful pics of the coffee table we created for her. What really got us was this line in her message:
“It brings so much joy into my life.”
That’s everything.

Yes, we build beautiful furniture. But more importantly, we craft pieces that bring meaning, comfort, and joy into the homes they live in. That’s the heart of Stripped.

"Can you make it look industrial… but like, tastefully industrial?"

Challenge accepted.

This mirror frame was all about finding the sweet spot: enough polished weld marks to show off its raw, handmade roots—but not so much that it looked like it moonlights in a warehouse.

We welded it up, polished it just right, then locked in the look with a clear powder coat. Clean, bold, and a little rebellious—like all good design should be.

Made by us. Inspired by you.

We were approached by to collaborate on a custom biltong cabinet for enfreshsa— one that blends refined craftsmanship with a farm-style aesthetic, while also being food safe.

We selected birch ply for its clean, natural look, and finished it with Osmo Polyx Raw Effect to preserve the pale tone of the wood, followed by a topcoat of Osmo Polyx Semi-Matt for durability and easy cleaning. Both finishes are food safe and ideal for this application.

The biggest design challenge? The roller doors. Rather than opting for a standard off-the-shelf mechanism, we engineered our own. Using our Festool Domino joiner, we routed a recessed channel at the base of each door to house sealed bearings, which glide smoothly along a custom track. At the top, dominos act as guides in a routed slot — a simple yet effective solution that keeps the design clean and mechanical-free.

Ventilation and lighting were handled by with support from — adding function and flair to finish off the piece beautifully.

We made a dream piece come to life! ✨

It’s not every day we get to design and manufacture something that is entirely ours—but that’s exactly what we did for The Hut Project! Teaming up with the incredible , we created the MuizenBar, a design that stood out among many submissions and earned its place in the Hut Design Challenge Exhibition.

On December 11, the exhibition showcased a lineup of stunning furniture pieces from some of SA’s most talented designers. And now, we’re thrilled to share that on February 19, the MuizenBar will be on display at .capetown !

This journey has been nothing short of amazing, and we can’t wait for you to see our work in person. Want to know more? Hit the link below to read all about it!
