Watson and Bailey Woodcraft
At Watson & Bailey Woodcraft we make furniture the old fashioned way.
Each piece is unique, hand built, and designed with our customers' needs and living spaces in mind.
I show the process I used to make a birthday gift for a friend. A sushi serving tray, chopsticks and chopstick rests made from Cherry, Sapele and Black Walnut.
Today I did some mortise and tenon joinery for a frame and panel construction bathroom vanity. It is made from sapele. I used a mix of machines and handtools to get solid joinery.
I show my process of cutting rough sawn boards to length and width and then how I use hand tools to get a reference face and edge on each part.
These parts are for a frame and panel style bathroom vanity made from solid Sapele and Baltic Birch Ply.

This bobbin-legged table was commissioned to fill an unused corner in a bedroom and be used as a small dresser. It is based on a design from circa 1890 that the client found and liked.
Table frame, apron, top and legs is solid Sapele mahogany, the drawers sides is Cherry and the drawer’s bottom and back is Japanese cedar. The sides are attached to the front using hand-cut half blind dovetails and the back is attached using shop made wooden pins. I used an oil and wax finish for this piece.
This was a fun piece to make!

The final touches on the black walnut sofa tray. It is more effort but a hand buffed wax finish is hard to beat.
Cutting some grooves in these cherry drawer sides using my Luban 043 plough plane. Quick and easy and a clean operation. ❤️
I’m resawing (saw a board into two thinner boards) a piece of Japanese Cedar to make a bookmatched drawer bottom. I’m using my new Axminster 2606 bandsaw from .

Here I show how I sharpen my plane blades. This is a routine sharpening and not a repair of a damaged blade or the preparation of a new blade.
