A LITTLE MAINTENANCE today in the Hobart CBD. Now I understand why they tag this place Quarry Street Apartments 😍. Nestled away inside the city, if you didn't know, you wouldn't know 🤭

RE-CORDING. It's the bread and butter of my work. Bonuses including getting to visit beautiful homes, meeting the cool people that own them and often, witnessing a little sneak peek into the historical stories hiding inside the walls 🫣

FOR SURE! One of my most favourite experiences in the work I do, is taking a discarded pile of parts from a dirty garage corner and refurbishing the piece so the customer can see what they actually have 😍. After a thorough scrub of all the pieces, I replaced missing glass, installed custom hand made trim and, blended stain into areas of harsh wear. This piece will not be discarded anymore, nor will it be sold. Instead, it has shown its true colours and about to become a welcome addition to the family home 🙏. Functional and beautiful, it's probable this lovely will serve for another run of one hundred years and I couldn't be happier 🥳

JUST IN TIME typically of course. The garden is trimmed back, the picket fence is rebuilt and painted, and the steps are laid and cleaned. Just in time for photos 🤭 House goes onto the market in two days 😍.

BRICKLAYING ON SUNDAY. It sounds like the title of a love song where the guy fails to find love cause he's too obsessed with taken every job to pay the bills and stay happy 🤭

REFURBISHMENT contains elements of restoration, repair, and sometimes renovation too. In every instance I am precious about the conservation of as much historical context (patina) as possible. This nigh on one hundred year old hutch epitomizes the objective. Beautiful now, functional and charming - the individually cleaned and polished original hardware is singing! I'm only glad it's not mine, otherwise I'd surely spend countless hours just looking at it in awe 😍🤭

I'M PRETTY SURE that clearing a mass of garden overgrowth is NOT in the Heritage Woodwork job description 😂 But when you're asked to refurbish a picket fence for a one hundred year old cottage you gotta first, get access eh? 🤭

WITHOUT DOUBT, it's a thrill to be asked to hand build custom pieces, especially for the proverbial sacred space - our homes. But to be asked by your friends? That's a whole next level thing. That, is a privilege 🙏. Built to customer spec with "Plane and Chisel" flavourings, this chest punches well beyond it's weight 😍 Clean lines, minimal pomp, and a few accents that you appreciate without even knowing they are there 🫣🤭🤸 Thanks Jeff and Brenton.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND sliding sash windows without pocket doors, they cause all sorts of additional challenges and time constraints. Either way, it's good to know Ralf is with me this week to share any such blows and keep the end game in sight 🤸.

REFURBISHMENT isn't renovation, nor is it at the purist end of the scale- restoration. But I do my best to keep an eye on anything that can fit into the restoration definition and act accordingly 🙃. The original hardware on this century old arts and crafts inspired home has come up a treat through buffing and cleaning and hours of TLC. Those heavy segmented tear-drop casement latches are to die for and you can'tbuy that! . It all really pops against the original timber 🤠. And what about the stained glass panels? I cgently cleaned and detailed them as part of the refurbishment and I'm so glad I did. They're singing choral music now 😍.
