**The Boy Charles Dickens Never Forgot**

At twelve years old, Charles Dickens was sent to work in a blacking factory while his father was imprisoned for debt.

Years later, he wrote A Christmas Carol — a ghost story that would ask readers to confront poverty, compassion and the possibility of change.

Our new documentary explores the extraordinary life and history behind Dickens's Christmas masterpiece.

What do you think Dickens's childhood taught him about the world?

The World Behind the Page — an original documentary series from Allen & Glades Media.

Before we meet the lonely child, we think we know everything we need to know about Scrooge.
He is cold. Ungenerous. Unkind.
Then Dickens takes him back to a schoolroom at Christmas, where a boy has been left alone.
“Scrooge said he knew it. And he sobbed.”
His childhood does not excuse the man he became. But this moment asks us to look again.
That is one reason to read A Christmas Carol, rather than leave it as a story we vaguely remember. Beneath the familiar characters is a deeply moving invitation to remember, reconsider and change.
Our Allen & Glades Deluxe Edition brings together the complete original classic and the story behind its creation.

Wuthering Heights is often remembered as one of literature’s great love stories.

But Emily Brontë wrote something far darker.

Catherine and Heathcliff are bound together by love, pride, cruelty, obsession and a connection neither of them can escape.

It is not a comfortable romance.

It is a story about what happens when love becomes possession, when hurt becomes revenge, and when two people cannot let each other go.

Nearly 180 years later, readers are still arguing about them.

HE SAW HIS OWN GRAVE.

Scrooge is shown the ending his choices have created—and begs to know whether it is fixed.

“Are these the shadows of things that Will be… or things that May be, only?”

That question is the heart of A Christmas Carol.

Are we condemned to become what we have been—or can an altered life still change what comes next?

“I will honour Christmas in my heart.”

The future is not yet written.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens—first published in 1843 and still one of the most powerful stories of remorse, transformation and hope ever written.

A Christmas Carol is remembered for snow, generosity and redemption. But beneath it all is a much harder question:

Does Scrooge deserve another chance?

Or is Dickens really asking whether any of us do?

Perhaps that is why this story still matters nearly two centuries later.

Maybe this is why we still return to Scrooge every Christmas.

Not because he begins as a good man.

Because, before it is too late, he is shown the life he has lived, the life he is living… and where that life will lead.

And then Christmas morning comes.

One more morning.
One more chance.

A Christmas Carol may be a ghost story, but beneath the ghosts is something far more human: regret, mercy, love, and the possibility that we can still become better than we have been.

More than 180 years after Dickens wrote it, perhaps that is why the story still stays with us.

He doesn’t simply ask whether Scrooge deserves another chance.

He leaves us wondering whether we do.

THE NEXT LITTLE BELIEVER Nobody tells you which Christmas will be the last one that feels quite like this.

The last Christmas they completely believe.
The last time they listen for footsteps on the roof.
The last time the magic feels absolutely real.

And then, years later, sometimes it returns in another little pair of eyes. 🎄

That is why some Christmas stories become more than books. They become traditions we pass from one generation to the next.

She chose Linton. Her soul chose Heathcliff.

In Chapter IX of Wuthering Heights, Catherine tries to explain something far deeper than romantic love:

“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”

It is one of Emily Brontë’s most haunting passages — not because Catherine is uncertain about Heathcliff, but because she seems to understand exactly what he is to her… and still chooses another life.

A few lines that contain almost the entire tragedy of Wuthering Heights.

The Count of Monte Cristo is more than a revenge story.

Fourteen years stolen. A life transformed. And enough power to destroy everyone responsible.

For first-time readers—and those ready to return—the question is the same:

If revenge were finally yours, would you know when to stop?

Complete and unabridged. All 117 chapters.

Before the adaptation, read the book that made it inevitable.

Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights is darker, stranger, and far more powerful on the page.
