Dansk Møbelkunst Gallery Dansk Møbelkunst Gallery specializes in 20th Century works of Nordic design.

Dansk Møbelkunst Gallery specializes in rare, original works of Danish furniture that were created during 1920-70, when a circle of craftsmen, architects and designers erased the distinction between works of art and functional equipment for everyday life. Established by Ole Høstbo in 1992, Dansk Møbelkunst takes its name from the Danish word for Furniture Art, a term that is rooted in the handicraft tradition and signifies a synthesis of aesthetics, utility and craftsmanship. During the twentieth century, møbelkunst evolved from the reproduction of historical styles to the creation of truly modern furniture that relied on beautiful materials, rather than applied decoration, and finely-crafted details for its aesthetic value. The gallery's expertise encompasses both handcrafted masterpieces and iconic works of industrial design.

An important dining set, designed by Arne Jacobsen c. 1951 for his own home in Søholm.
The chairs are his iconic Ant chair but in a special version in Oregon pine, made exclusively for the occasion to match the table.
The chairs are light and stackable and the table can be easily extended with either one or two leaves to
make room for guests. The dining set was part of the interior in Jacobsen’s own house in the row
houses ‘Søholm’ north of Copenhagen. Søholm was completed between 1945—1954 and
Jacobsen lived there until his death in 1971.

The Valet chair in solid pine and teak, designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1953

The back that extends into a clothes hanger makes the chair in equal parts a refined wooden sculpture and a very useful invention. The seat lifts to reveal a compartment for storing small items like a watch, wallet and keys and when the seat is raised it functions as a hanger for a pair of trousers. Its anthropomorphic shapes, comprising shoulders, spine and rear make the chair not only one of Wegner’s most organically formed designs, but also one of his most playful and
humorous. The exquisite woodwork is executed by master cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen.
