SOLD! SOLD! SOLD! This One Was Written In The Stars. 🚨✨🚨
Sometimes the stars align in ways you simply couldn’t make up, and yesterday at Supertramped HQ was one of those days I’ll remember for a very long time.
Flora, the Mercedes 508D, as she’s now been lovingly named by her new owners, has found her forever humans. And from the very first message I received from these two, I had this overwhelming feeling that she was meant to be theirs. Something about their warmth, kindness and love for these old machines just clicked with me. We’d never met, yet I already felt a connection with them and knew I’d have done absolutely anything to make their dream happen.
They’ve spent the last three years living full time on the road in their trusty but rusty little Transit, dreaming of one day owning a Mercedes 508D. Then along came this old girl, and without ever having seen a 508D in person, they sent me a deposit completely blind. No viewing just an instinct that this was the one.
And I understood that feeling more than they could possibly know. I’ve done exactly the same with my Unimog, 508 NATO ambulance and VW 181. I even bought my Triumph motorcycle outright without ever seeing it, only laying eyes on it when it was delivered at my door. When I know, I just know. And clearly, these two are made of the same stuff.
And what a day it turned out to be…
From the moment they arrived at HQ, it genuinely felt like we’d known each other for years. Proper kindred spirits. The laughter, the excitement, the sheer joy of it all, everything just flowed. Watching them stand in front of a Mercedes 508D for the very first time and try to comprehend the sheer size of her compared to their little Transit was absolutely priceless. Their faces said everything. Three fully grown adults with the uncontrollable excitement of kids on Christmas morning. The energy was absolutely fu***ng nuclear and I never wanted it to end.
Then came firing up that glorious old Mercedes engine. Once we’d dialled down the idle adjustment, of course! There we all were, grinning like Cheshire cats, listening to that old girl rumble away and practically vibrating with happiness and joy. It was impossible not to get completely swept up in it all.
And somehow, the universe still had one final surprise waiting for us.
On their journey home, they accidentally stumbled into a pub called JUNO. Yes, JUNO! The very name of another Mercedes 508D we’d poured our hearts into and built earlier this year.
And there they were, sitting in a pub called Juno, raising a celebratory drink to becoming the owners of Flora, and sending over the final payment for their new rolling home.
I mean, of all the pubs, in all the places, on that particular day. What are the chances?!
From that very first message, to trusting their instincts, finally meeting, sharing all that excitement and then somehow ending the day in a pub named after another Supertramped 508D, the whole thing felt like one incredible chain of events that was always meant to happen.
And that, to me, is what keeps the magic of Supertramped alive. Because behind the scenes, it isn’t always rainbows and unicorns. There are days that test every ounce of patience, passion and strength I’ve got. Days that leave me questioning why I put so much of myself into what I do. But then something like yesterday happens, and every difficult moment suddenly feels worth it. I’m reminded that this has never really been about the trucks themselves. It’s about the lives they touch, the people they bring together and the extraordinary privilege of helping someone turn a dream into reality. And as long as moments like yesterday exist, that fire inside me will never go out. 🫶🏽🔥✨
