CAN YOU HELP US BUILD OUR COMMUNITY WELLBEING GARDEN PAGODA?

We’ve got the vision. We’ve got the plans. AC Group are building this for us! We’ve got the community....

Now we need some specific materials to help us bring our pagoda to life.

At The Power of Resilience CIC, we’re creating a Community Wellbeing Garden with a beautiful sheltered pagoda that will provide a safe, welcoming space for people to grow, connect, learn, create and simply be themselves.

Importantly, this space will be especially used by neurodiverse children and adults, providing an outdoor environment where people can learn practical skills, spend time in nature, build confidence and connect with others in a supportive and inclusive setting.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SPECIFIC MATERIALS:

*Postcrete – 24 bags
*4x4 tanalised posts – 6
*6x2 timber lengths (3200mm) – 14
*Hangers – 8
*90mm wood screws – 2 boxes
*Roof sheets (1m x 3200mm) – 7
*Roof sheet fixings

Could you help us with one of these items?

Perhaps you’re a local builder, joiner, roofer, timber merchant or DIY enthusiast who could donate materials.

Perhaps your business could sponsor one item or part of the cost.

Perhaps you could offer us a trade price or discounted materials.

You don’t have to fund the whole project. One bag of Postcrete, one length of timber or one box of screws gets us closer.

And if you can’t donate, please share this post. Someone in your network may be able to help.

This might look like a building project, but for us it represents so much more.

It will become a place where neurodiverse children and adults can feel welcome, develop skills, build confidence, connect with nature and experience belonging.

We’re literally building a space for people to grow.

A lovely homeschool group this afternoon harvesting beautiful fresh apples from our newly planted apple tree, sampling chive flowers and chives, mint and mint flowers and raspberries.

We then completed some weeding and finished off the session by celebrating the 10th Birthday of The Bread And Butter Thing with RidgeHill Big Local Hub and cake!

We even had a chance to sample pickled chilli pineapple from this week's shop!

Listening That Softens Anger

This morning I’ve been contemplating James 1:19: 'Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.'

I’ve frequently read that God is slow to anger and that we should listen more than we speak, but I’ve never really put the two concepts together.

Maybe if we start to listen more, slow down our thoughts, our opinions, and our need to respond, we’ll become less angry. The more I hear other people’s stories, the more I understand what they are going through.

And the more understanding grows, the more compassionate I become. The more compassionate I am, the more I care about those around me.

This week I’m praying this for myself. But I’m praying it for my community too.

In times of such division in our nation, may we truly listen more than we speak and be slow to become angry.

Wow, just wow! The Power of Resilience CIC has been shortlisted for TWO awards in this years Pride Of Tameside Awards!

In the Green Impact Category we've been recognised for our pantries, community kitchen, wellbeing garden and creative arts projects utilising recycling.

Our Executive Director Julie Mallinson has been shortlisted as Entrepreneur of the Year! This is a phenomenal recognition of all her hard work and commitment to rolling out pantries across the area, giving hours and hours of her time and leading by example.

Another absolutely fantastic morning with Chadwick Dam Cooking Forest. Today we created bug habitats from broken pots donated by Notcutts Garden Centre and investigated the bugs that would live in them, we made seasonal fruit pots with yoghurt, blueberries, blackberries, damson and plum jam and discussed seasonal foraging and edible plants, flowers and berries.

Wonderful project!

A lovely creative and relaxing Revive and Restore group this evening led by Suze and Lisa Smith.

Some fabulous creativity with Paddington Bunting made, an applique pencil case, a pin cushion, a pompom and some small gift bags.

Great imaginative work from everyone.

Our Stalybridge and Ashton Pantries have been fully stocked today thanks to an amazing donation from Aldi UK Ashton and a collaboration with Sunflower Day Nursery Stalybridge and Broadoak & Smallshaw Community Centre.

We've had hundreds of bread rolls go out! Huge thanks to Gail from Stalybridge Sunflower for being our delivery driver and distributer!

Huge amounts of families to be fed from this donation!
