Officina Antiquaria Milano Design gallery specialized in 20th century originals and antiques, located in the heart of Milan.

Mario Gottardi (1913–2004)

A remarkable example of Italian modernism, this elegant table combines sculptural wooden supports, a glass-inset top and a suspended storage compartment with finely ribbed detailing. A refined interplay of geometry, materials and craftsmanship.

Born in Venice, Mario Gottardi graduated in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1939. Among his most celebrated projects are the interiors and furnishings of Venice’s legendary Hotel Bauer, redesigned in 1951.

Defined by their sculptural silhouettes, gently curved backrests and embracing armrests, these armchairs express the refined balance between organic form, comfort and craftsmanship that characterised Italian design in the 1950s.

The art of preservation.

Behind every piece selected by Officina Antiquaria lies a quieter story. One of time, knowledge and craftsmanship.

Within our in-house restoration workshop, skilled hands work with patience and precision, guided by a profound understanding of materials, techniques and the history of each object.

Restoration is not simply about bringing something back to life. It is an act of respect for what has endured, a delicate balance between preserving the past and allowing its beauty to remain present.

Much of this work remains unseen. Yet it is an essential part of everything we do.

An elegant pair of armchairs in shaped cherrywood, featuring gently curved frames, refined proportions and beautifully articulated open backs.

The generously upholstered seats and backrests are finished in Loro Piana fabric, creating a subtle contrast between the warmth of the wood and the softness of the textile.

Silvio Cavatorta (1899–1957)

Writing desk, circa 1950
Cavatorta & Co.

An elegant study in proportion and craftsmanship, this desk combines the warmth of blonde wood with the refined translucency of its original opaline glass top.

The sculptural frame, tapered legs and seamlessly integrated drawers reveal Cavatorta’s distinctive approach to modern furniture: a balance of formal lightness, functional precision and understated sophistication.

Gaetano Sciolari — Model 2061, 1954

A rare telescopic lamp conceived around the principles of movement and balance.

Its articulated brass arm, pulley system and counterweight create a precise yet almost effortless mechanism, allowing the light to move through space while maintaining a striking visual equilibrium.

Painted metal, enamelled diffuser and brass come together in a distinctly Italian language of the 1950s—where engineering becomes design and function becomes form.

Milan, a home, a way of seeing.
A home that reflects a personal, curious and independent sensibility, where different eras, forms and materials come together without following a single set of rules.

It is a way of seeing that we also recognize in Officina Antiquaria: the ability to recognize the character of a piece and bring it into dialogue with something completely different.

PAOLO BUFFA — CA. 1950
A table in motion.

An undulating elm top, four elegant tapering legs and the unmistakable warmth of Italian craftsmanship.

Designed by Paolo Buffa, manufactured by Serafino Arrighi, this occasional table captures the designer’s particular balance of architecture and intimacy — sculptural in silhouette, restrained in detail, and deeply rooted in the Milanese tradition of fine cabinetmaking.

A portrait of Buffa, and one of his interiors, complete the story.
