June is National Home Ownership Month, or as we like to refer to it "Own Your Home, Don't Let Your Home Own You" Month. We love the feeling of pride we have of our homes, and all too often, that gets cluttered by all of the stuff we put in them.

May is Older Americans Month, an opportunity for us to recognize the contributions, resilience, and vitality of older adults. also take this as a reminder to check in with the Older Americans in our lives and see how they are doing. Something as simple as a quick phone call, coming over for a meal, or taking a walk can really brighten someone's day. Connecting with organizations like the AARP Colorado, your local chapter of the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging & Veteran Services, or for us Coloradans, AgeWise Colorado can offer support, resources, and community.
This year, the theme of Older Americans Month is "Champion Your Health!" We're all on board with that, and urge everyone to remember it is also Mental Health Awareness Month. There is a misconception about professional organizers.
People think our job is to convince clients to get rid of things.
Our Chief of Chaos to Calm, though, instead always tells clients even before we've been hired that our job is to guide them to the decisions.
But on rare occasions, Beth will be a bit more ruthless without being too pushy or insensitive.
That was the case with one of Beth's ongoing downsizing/decluttering senior clients who recently sent her the text below.
Being compassionate and non-judgemental is so important when doing this work.
Being practical as well?

"Do the best you can because that’s the best you can do"
Apparently, this was a quote from the 1990s children's TV show Rollie Pollie Ollie???
There are many other famous ones like it, including Maya Angelou's "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better".
The message, though, is the same.
It's all about accepting your limitations and not allowing what others can do affect you.
In a world of Monday morning quarterbacks, that's really hard when trying to simply function as an adult with so much chaos swirling around us that we have no control over.
Being judged sucks.
But being paralyzed and overwhelmed by visual clutter is even worse.
It will eventually lead to even more mental clutter.
A professional organizer can handle the external clutter. And with May being Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to be part of the solution to reducing that mental clutter. But you really do need to seek out a mental health expert for any internal clutter.
