Peg Wedge / Huon Legacy

Photos from The Timber Trip's post 02/04/2026

Huon Legacy Project-
2 x Pegwedge tables crafted from ancient Huon Pine. This timber has a long backstory. A log sent over from Tassie in the 70’s was intended to be crafted into a boat, it was milled into large sections and then stored on two different farms. We have had it on our racks since it was rescued after the 2020 fires where it was nearly lost.
We have now made 4 dining tables from this incredible timber.

Huon Legacy Project- when working with timber this ancient and special you don’t waste a scrap. Butterfly pins to split ends add stability and are aesthetically pleasing.

Re opening our doors for 2026…

The MI/YUKI/MON entry gate from last year captured beautifully by Andrew Wuttke
We have had people asking about how it turned out..my photos didn’t do it justice. If only we could have all our work professionally shot.

Looking forward to getting back into the workshop.

“Canopy Shelf” - a shelf for displaying plants to bring greenery into the living area envisioned as an abstracted tree canopy allowing taller plants to grow and others creep down.

The Gerald’s Bar Service trolleys beautifully captured by Andrew Wuttke photography.
To be used for serving high tea, looking forward to seeing them in action.
Materials - ancient Red Gum & recycled tas oak flooring. A hint of Huon in the through tenons. Ply & rubber wheels.
Fun fact, the ply wheels are actually offcuts from some speaker boxes we made for the El Gran Mono crew earlier in the year.

Its official- Gerald’s Bar 2.0 is officially open. After a few chats with Gerald and Mario, some sketches to map out the bar and a whole lot of trust given to us by those two, we have been busy bees in the workshop the last few months creating aeroplane wings, book matching panels for the curvaceous bar facing, incorporating 300 year old pieces of brushbox that was part of a staircase Nick was building 8 years ago into the bar top, building some afternoon tea trolleys, & scraping muck off the original bar shelving and putting it back in a new configuration. So no time for posts and we didn’t want to spoil the surprise- over the next week we will re cap how it all went together. Better finished pics than mine can be seen at https://www.broadsheet.com.au/melbourne/food-and-drink/article/geralds-bar-lygon-street

Been visiting clients! Love to see our pieces in place and in use. This Peg Wedge dining table is looking great in its home with a beautiful polished concrete floor.

How do you put a price on that?
2 day coffee table- these coffee tables take 1 x craftsperson two days to make. Price - two days of your wage. A socialist experiment of sorts, questioning the value of craft, the perception of value in the hand made and inequality of earnings across professions.

Objects that are used repeatedly every day require utilitarian comfort but should also look good. These existing still very functional robes have been elevated with some new handles. Drawing from the Edwardian period of the house these handles feel like they have always been there, however the angles and ergonomics make them suitable for any era.
Book matched ancient Red Gum & recycled Tasmanian HW floor boards.
