Hello from our Founder, Mia 👋 We are noticing that more of you have started following our family run Highgate studio, so we thought we ought to reintroduce ourselves! Mia Karlsson Interior Design was founded out of a passion for beautiful spaces, with Mia's Swedish influence shining through in simple, functional and natural solutions. Today this is complemented by the many collective years’ experience of our fantastic team who bring their own creative, elegant and modern approaches to every design.

We are a tight knit team of 7 Interior Designers, Interior Architects and Procurement experts from all over the Globe who work together to create beautiful spaces that our clients are proud to call home. This year has no doubt been one of our busiest and most exciting following what i'm sure most small businesses will agree were a few very tough years, especially in our industry where imports, trades and construction faced so many challenges. We are so proud to be going in to our 20th year of trading next year, and hope you'll continue to follow our journey.

Check out our website to find out more about us, and to discuss any 2025 projects you may need help with!

This bedroom was all about creating a calm sanctuary in the madness that is London living. Beautiful textures, soft shapes and a neutral colour scheme. Just breathe...

We love the beautiful bespoke cabinetry in the Hampstead hideaway study. It was the thing that changed the room the most, making it a practical working space that will stand the test of time. In our pursuit of local suppliers we found .n4 - a local Crouch End based furniture maker who we had the pleasure of working with on this project. Study spaces do of course need to be practical, but that doesn't mean they can't be interesting and inspirational too! We opted for bold colour in this room, and added some more playful elements such as the Graham & Green side tables, vibrant Togo chair, and our favourite Seletti monkey lamp.

If you've been following us for a while you will know we are BIG fans of colour, in this case - pink 💕Pink can be fun, vibrant and edgy, or calm and serene depending on the shade, texture, how it is used, and so much more. In this guest WC the pink concrete sink and Cole & Son wallpaper work together to inject so much personality in to this small space. In the studio space we used much softer shades and textures to create a laid back, comfortable and calm scheme. Two very different vibes in the same home. Don't save pink for children's bedrooms, it is a lot more diverse than you think!

When designing an open plan space, we like to think of ways to connect each 'zone' whilst still allowing each to have an individual feel. Open plan doesn't have to mean one big matching box, or a vast expanse of one colour. There are ways to create synergy in larger spaces. In this Hampstead home the full ground floor uses colours from the same earthy, calming palette but you may also notice more subtle links such as the kitchen pendants, dining pendant and floor lamp at the very back of the living room sharing the same gentle curves, or the coffee table and fruit bowl having a very similar structure - small details that make all the difference ✨️

Introducing this beautiful Hampstead hideaway! This open plan kitchen and dining room are next to the terrace with lots of natural light so we opted for calm, earthy colours and organic shapes with lots of blues, greens, greys and browns to connect to the outdoor space. The rugs, dining chairs and table, armoire and lighting all share the same soft curves to create a beautiful flow through the space. Swipe for the before photo... ➡️

We love turning the ordinary in to the extraordinary, especially for our youngest clients! Our clients Son has a love of climbing (see the next slide for his bespoke climbing wall!) and needed plenty of storage so we designed a mezzanine level over the top of a bed, wardrobe and desk area, complete with a rope to climb down in to bed from his very own reading nook. This is one of our favourite children's bedrooms in our 15+ years of design... a true one of a kind space.

In this primary en-suite we used a combination of Light Peach Blossom and China Clay Deep paint by Little Greene, paired with aged copper Catchpole & Rye tapware and J. Adams & Co fluted wall lights to create a traditional bathroom with a light, bright, fresh twist.

The designs for one of our new Hampstead projects are coming along nicely and we are super excited to start sharing them! We always say bathrooms are a great place to make bold choices if you're feeling a little unsure about using new colours and materials, and here is an example of what we mean. We want this space to feel calm, earthy and warm with some playful elements. Would love to hear what you guys think?
