United Nations Support Office in Somalia - UNSOS

Official account of UNSOS. UNSOS currently supports 21,126 uniformed personnel in the largest UN mandated peace support operation – AMISOM.

UNSC Res. 2809 (2025), adopted on 23 December, extends the mandate of until 31 December 2026, reaffirming continued support for stabilization efforts in . UNSOS replaced the United Nations Support Office for the African Union Mission in Somalia, UNSOA which was established in 2009, to provide critical logistic and life support to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), and later to the Somali National Army (SNA), the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) and the Somalia and Eritrea Monitoring Group. UNSOS will also support an additional 10,900 Somali National Army personnel participating in its joint operations with AMISOM.

Today, there was à tripartite meeting organised by National Security Adviser, H.E. Ambassador Awes Hagi Ahmed, at Villa Somalia attended by Acting ASG and Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia - UNSOS Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, and the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia-AUSSOM Force Commander Lt. Gen. Sam Kavuma.

Discussions focused on strengthening continuing coordination, partnership between UNSOS, AUSSOM and the Federal Government of Somalia, including advancing peace and security in Somalia.

They reaffirmed their commitment to the tripartite mechanism to enhance coordination and logistical support for Somali-led security operations, while underscoring the importance of sustained international support for Somalia’s security transition and long-term stability.

Following the conclusion of the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) mandate yesterday, UNTMIS Officer-in-Charge and UN Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative for Somalia, Raisedon Zenenga, was today accorded a Guard of Honour by the United Nations Guard Unit (UNGU) in , ahead of his departure from Somalia.

Present at the occasion were the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia, George Conway, and Acting Assistant Secretary-General and Head of UNSOS, Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai.

Today, Acting ASG and Head of United Nations Support Office in Somalia - UNSOS, Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, visited Beledweyne to oversee sector logistics operations, engage with personnel and African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia-AUSSOM.

During her visit, Ms. Sadozai met with AUSSOM Sector 4 Commander from the Djiboutian National Defence Force 🇩🇯, thanking them for their and reaffirming ’s 🇺🇳 commitment to providing critical logistical and life-support services to troops.

🔧💧 The United Nations Support Office in Somalia - UNSOS has completed a four-day technical course for nine Somali National Armed Forces personnel on the operation and maintenance of United Nations-Owned Equipment (UNOE), with a focus on generator sets and water treatment plants.

This capacity-building effort is part of ongoing UNSOS support to strengthen the skills of Somali Security Forces and equip them with the knowledge needed to operate and maintain essential equipment, contributing to a sustainable transition in Somalia.

Led by the Engineering and Facilities Management Section (EFMS), the course also included a dedicated session on global water challenges and water-quality monitoring.
